Figures that someone would ask a specific question and everyone gives them all the games in thier arsenal.
I do not own a console...mainly due to the fact that my PC has most of my money invested....and I would never do anything else ever..if i had to play games on my TV as well.
My only desire for one would be to get the Gamecube and play a few for that system I like..but are not offered to PC. It is cheap ( about $99.00 plus the goodies) and I have a friend next door who has quite a few games for it already.. I could just borrow some to start.
A few similar threads have already taken up this subject and I know that it would just be a waste to list them all again..but the question is.. What are you playing now?..so my answer would be nothing and everything. Mostly I just stare at the games I have already played or some which don't really turn me on....
Newest games I just got recently would be KOTOR..Rise of Nations ..,C and C Generals Zero Hour...
Never sould get Chronicles of Riddick to even play so i just sent it back to the seller hoping for a refund of some sort....
Once again ,like I stated in another post..I play CS Source online mostly in my spare time..and UT 2004 also but not as much as before....
It would be nice to get a wall rack for all my CD's and games..as I have many. use a couple of shelf units for storage right now..and need to conserve space in these cramped quarters I live in

Not even close to all the games in my 'arsenal'.
Would require approx anothr 300 lines to write them all down. Those are the ones though that are actually installed and being played.
no i'm not rich, the only games i purchase are ones that require a cd-key for online MP.
The rest get downloaded from various 'shady' areas of the internet.
Thank God, because half the game releases these days are total ****, and don't merit more than half an hour of play before they are thrown into some drawer in my room.
Why can't we RENT pc games at the local video store, just like we do with console games? What's the big fuss?

euphoryk... Did you ever get COR to play?? ..or did it work for you???
I am real interested to know..because i just sent the game back
and it would not play properly ,no matter what I did ( drivers and other ),even though I have a high end machine.
yeah.. it would be quite a long page indeed for me to list all the games I got..but I already have done that a few times here already.
Most of the games worth playing I have..I finsihed twice or three times already...so I am playing more MP right now...until I get a new game next month.
Moods seem to play alot into what I play... Might just try and replay an older game over again..if and when it strikes my fancy.

Rabbitrunner,
I did get COR to play. But i didn't pay ;)
I didn't play much though. First time through, approx 5 minutes into game, right near start, i fell off the ledge then went to climb up and got a BSOD.
Gave it another shot, played for approx 25 minutes, but didn't make it to a save point, got my azz killed. Havn't played since.
ran fine, no problems other than first BSOD.
reviews are great for the game, for a console port. I keep thinking i should re-install it.
Purchased BIA a few days ago. Not very impressed. A little sad. Same goes for MOHPA, bought it, installed it, went to look for online servers and found like a total of 13 people playing the game. I was expecting to see a whole bunch of servers, similar to the three hundred and fifty thousand there are for MOHAA. But it's a no go. They really bombed on that one.
I settled for Joint Ops, which is pretty sweet. Does have some annoyances.
Waiting patiently for Battlefield 2......

Well, I had no luck whatsoever getting the game to even pass the first menu load screen...as it slowed to almost a complete halt after doing all the things i could think of to get it to work.(PC version)
I uninstalled my current drivers.and reinstalled my old ones( both should have worked just fine),and did anything else pertaining to in the read me file under issues and settings.
The game installed fine and loaded fine..up until the first press enter to start screen and the next screen was way.....slow and the revolving menu ( as I am told ) comes into view very slow and messed up from the get go.
100% of every game I ever got worked up till this point, and I have a high enough machine to operate it.
Somebody else here said the SLI support is messed up or you need this to play it.
Too bad as I was looking forward to playing it and like I said anythng that is that much trouble is not at all worth a penny to me.
The company that made the game has a strange and slow acting website with no support for this also. Not a good sign. I wrote to Vivendi and they don't even have the game listd in their gmes although they have their name on it.
I am considering getting Joint OPs as I did like the MP aspect quite a bit and thought it had some merit. I have all the other games of the same maker previously also.
As far as that goes...I used to love ot play UT2004 religiously but the number of gamers for that has droped dramatically.
Most I think play CSSource now..as do I. Very.. very habit forming.;)

Rabbitrunner:
****, wish you had the game around still to give it one last chance....
I'd be willing to bet 10$ (in Canadian funds) that it was your sound card drivers messing it up.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say you have a soundblaster series card, and you were using sb drivers and if you would have tried running the KX Project drivers your problem would have disappeared.
if i'm totally lost on this one let me know.
Maybe download the demo and try?
Battlefield 2? looks pretty sweet no?
Rabbitrunner51
03-24-2005, 05:36 AM
yes it does( BF 2) .
I have never heard of a game messing up video wise due to sound card drivers. If that s the case..then why is nothing mentioned in the " read me file",and why does every other game work just fine?( yes..I do have the Audigy 2 ZS latest drivers )
Since you mention it..I did go ahead today and DL the demo and the exact same thing happened.
To me..it just isn't worth the hassle to figure out..and yesterday(Tuesday),I sent the game back to the seller.
Not going to lose any sleep over it..as we have so much most of the time to choose from..and in the next three months..quite a few killer games are coming out...esp> F.E.A.R. and BF 2.
Thanks for taking the time to respond... and
Now you all can get back to the main topic again

Deus Ex 2 was and still is one of the top 20 PC games ever made. It's just been battered (rather unfairly) by PC gamers.
Al ot of it stems from the fact that PC Gamers spat their dummy out over what they saw as a "popularized" game, designed with the mass market in mind, rather than a few hardcore RPG gamers who live in cupboards. Said cupboard people then spat their dummy out, chosing to ignore the fact that while DE2 is indeed nto as good as DE, its still a cracking game and different enough from its predecessor to warrant playing.
Indeed, Warren Spector and Co.'s reputations have logn been built on making excellent but niche titles for hardcore PC gamers (System Shock, DE, Theif etc.) that hardly sold a singlr unit, a sourtce of constant outrage for said PC Gamers. When Spector and Co. made moves to mediate between the old fanbase and mass market popularity with DE2 and Thief 3, many of the old fans spat their dummy's out.
As such, IMO a lot of the negative comments that many PC Gamers have about DE2 and Theif 3, come not from the actual quality of said titles (both of which are amongst the best titles fo recent years), but from some sad little sense of PC Gamer elitism which DE2 and Theif 3's mass market nature somehow offended

Alright Jak... well said and that is the point(s) exactly.
I like both of those games DE2 and Thief 3.
Both are worthy of being played and looked upon in their own right and time period.....not alaways looking in the pst and forever doing this comparing thing..and using it as a way to somehow discredit the latest editions.
As another example.... If HL 2 was done and made exactly like the original I would have been disappointed.
At present I am replaying another of those overlooked so called "B" games called IGI 2. It is and was a very good stealth type game worthy of picking up and playing for a few measly dollars.
Getting close to decison making time as the beginning of April is approaching... and there are five games I want...and only enough money to get one..and possibly another at a cheap price.;)

That brings up the subject of Codemasters..the company.
I have read in the not so distant past that they were having some troubles...possibly keeping thier company afloat.
Of course they are the same company that put out a few of the more famous titles...like the Colin McRae rally series and some other alright games....
My hope is that they hang in there as they try real hard and seem genuinely straightforward about thier offerings.
Am actually having a good time playing IGI 2 and am impressed at the older graphics that at the time were pretty good and well done. The last five missions or so are just killer...and have learned that stealth and not necessarily confronting the enemy head on is just as much fun and offers more intrigue.
Your right Jak....great games.

SC: Chaos Theory. Been highly impressed with it gameplay wise, graphically it is somewhat of a nightmare - alternating btw nice textures and polished plastic.
I have to agree that overall DE:IW was a good title. I didn't like some aspects of it, but I can find something to gripe about with any title if anyone hasn't noticed. While I was turned off initially by the interface it was easy to see past it as the original wasn't that RPGish. The main appeal of DE:IW is there, and that is the storyline. My main gripe is the sheer amount of power needed to drive it and it's overall shine to textures - SC: CT suffers from this as well thanks to being a xbox port with little added shader work, but moreso since they actually have more textures which look good, so the bad ones just REALLY stand out.
I never could get into Thief 3 really - I can't say why either - just that it never grabbed me like the previous two.
I was sad to see Looking Glass go in the fact that so many innovative titles came out of there.

Warren will be back, the guy is far too big a name in the industry to dissapear for too long. I do think however that the curtain has drawn now on the Thief and Deus Ex games, there is work in progress going on for the "spiritual sequel" to the System Shock games which looks like (if it ever actually comes to fruition) it coudl be good.
I wouldnt be suprised to see Wozza go down the Cyberpunk mixed-genre route again, i just doubt it'll be with any of his past franchises

I thought the more programs loaded = slower
Hence only: HL2 + Far Cry active at present
Otherwise would be a long FPS list:)
Someone Stupid
04-04-2005, 08:48 AM
Only if the programs are active will it be slower... you can have 500 games on your comp and they will load as fast as one. Now that one prorgam will load slower if you have an AV, firewall, anti-spy, (those I'd keep regardless) and a bunch of another UNNEEDED utilities in your raskbar or running as processes (those I'd dump).... Stuff that is idle on the HDD doesn't mess with load times at all.

Has anyone here actually bought and played a bit of SC Chaos Theory? Its been out for almost a week now...

Yes, it is great.
I'd recommend you play with the brightness and contrast to remove a good deal of the DE:IW texture shine if it annoys you, those sliders are really useful in this game. The game looks beautiful after a little tweaking on it and the gameplay is superb.
Played through it several times now - still can't get near perfect on the last two levels, but then again, they kinda do evolve into bloodbaths without a choice in it.

SomeoneStupid....Thats amazing...you played through it twice already??? Must have gotten the game just when it came out.
Like I said if Office Depoe or someone else has it where I can just go and pick it up without postage and shipping times ...then I might have it by this weekend.
You seem more than not a harsh reviewer on games but like me,maybe you loved this game from the start way back with the first one. Critigues always help in my determinations to get something...thanks!
 ;)

If you read Jakk's SC patch thread, you'd see I was really harsh. Came after playingt he worst level in the game though and I was quite frustrated... I followed up and tried to clear up my comments a bit. Since then I've been able to get rid of my main graphical gripe, a DE:IW texture sheen (which was pretty bad - though it looks great long as you don't compare it to the latest games) by playing with the b and c sliders. Now I really can't complain - just I think they should have had a different default for the brightness and contrast, at normal settings, textures get too shiny. Also made the game tons harder since one has to use the other vision modes to see in the dark instead of naturally seeing fifteen times better than the enemies - I now use nightvision - before I rarely if ever did.
I'm needing to have surgery (hence the time), so I had to withdraw from school since even though I'm able to pull A's on the test the policy states I have to show up or lose 5 points a day on the final grade. Bastards.

;) Yeah, I went to CompUSA today and picked it up for $29.99. At that price I had no choice but to get it.

The Lodge...
I just went to the CompUSA site to check out the prices ..and games ect..and sure enough they have it listed..but alongside it also said coming soon.
I will call them tomorrow at one of our stores here and see what the scoop is and when I can do this..or if they have it in stock.
Since the site also lists the same game for Xbox as being the full $49.99 ,then maybe the PC version will be as advertised by this promo to start off.

RR don't let that fool ya. I think it came out on friday. That $29.99 deal was in their ad from sundays paper. When I went today my local compusa had about 40 copies.
I was gonna get the game anyways, just not right away. But like I said, for that price I had no choice. :t

Its a big busride from DT here (not too bad)..to where I would get it... but I figure $1.35 is next to nothing to save so much. ;)

Just picked up Splinter Cell Chaos Theory at CompUSA.
Thanks Lodge on the info about where to get it... costs just thirty dollars. You saved me at least $15-18.00.
Will give some rundown on it later tonight or tomorrow after I play it awhile.;)

Just finished it..(SC Chaos Theory ) and I liked it.
Like Someone Stupid said in another post..it is not all that difficult.. I would say a tad bit less hard than the first one and harder than the second...
Played it on medium mode. The tools Sam is able to use work beautifully in the game,( it took me awhile to know just how to utilize the moves the best..but they are automatic mostly anyway..just move and click the left of right move button.
In my opinion , the interface console is almost the same ole one you loved in the first..just a couple of things changed or added. No problems
Some of the cicnematic scenes within the game I really liked and this is more than in the previous two games...and if you have a good sound card there are some nice audio soundtracks going on in 5.1 or 7.1 sound here and there.
Not an overly long game... maybe a bit short... but some missions have almost two parts..so. ten in all.
Since I got the game pretty cheap looking back..I can say hat fifty dollars may be a bit steep. More like the $30-45 range.
Very glad I picked this up and did quite enjoy it like I knew I would... did not dissapoint...so i'm happy.
Wait a week or two andf play it on hard mode.
Only the middle of the month and still two weeks till April, then I can order another.

At the moment I've been playing Shining Force on my SNES, and Final Fantasy VI. I like to alternate between them :p
PS2 has Burnout 3 in it which I play 10 mins here and there once in a while, PC has SWAT 4 on the go at the mo, managed to get 3 levels done in 2 weeks, lol, I'm not a big gamer :p
Also, was bored last night and played Mario World through again.

Changed my mind again..
Think I will pick up "Cold Fear" for PC.
Been following this games release and a good article and gameplay screenies are out on most websites.
Just got a copy of GamePro magazine and they have a section devoted to this game... looks to be real good.
Think from one online retailer I can get it for $30.00. ;)

just grabbed the SNES and N64 versions :) Was playing the 64 version a few days back at a friends - liked the older one better - then again, the 64 wasn't the best 3D graphics, and splitting the screen didnt' help. Still was fun. Be nice to play it again. Just need to wire my consoles up to my comp now - hope I still have everything.
I really can't be buying much more after this now that I think about it - I need to start saving as I don't want to be dumping into my savings - girls aren't cheap, especially when they need a ring. :( Credit Cards and EBay are terrible things to an impulse buyer.

I very much agree with that statement. How many things have I bought on ebay but dont even need it....the list is endless.
Mario cart seems to go for a pretty penny still on Ebay. I was trying to get it for me wee lad last year...and they were still going for £15 or so...when other games were about £2-3.

Why don't you guys just download the SNES etc emulators, along with all 6 thousand ROMS?
simple solution. And there will be more games available than you can handle.

Yes, they have similar gamepads for the pc, that function with the emulators. And if you must have the original controller there is this fine product:
http://www.dreamstation.cc/reviews/computer/super_smartjoy/index.shtml
info:
Super SmartJoy (SNES to USB Adapter) from LikSang lets you connect a Super Nintendo or Super Famicon controller to your PC or Mac, allowing you to play PC games using a standard Super Nintendo controller. It also works with SNES9x, MAME, GB/GBA and other emulators for retro-gaming on your PC. Can the Super SmartJoy adapter live up to what gamers want? Let's find out.
Haha, bet you weren't expecting that...
take care.
Someone Stupid
04-28-2005, 11:27 PM
no I wasn't - but then I'd need another for the N64 - and when there are only a few games I want to play - which I have owned for awhile - adapters are more expensive. I can't even find that adaptor you linked to other than at their site overseas. The cost for both adaptors and the cheapest shipping is 10 more than I paid for both games. Seeing that I have any other game I want for either platform, I came out ahead. If I was big into the old consoles though I'd come out ahead with your suggestion, but in this case it isn't so.
Still, nice find there.

04-28-2005, 11:31 PM
Your just being difficult.
Either way you win hands down, with the free emulator download and all 6 thousand ROMS and a standard Gravius gamepad or the like.
Every game you wish you could have played, would have played, or should have played will be included, even the ones you couldn't have played even if you wanted to.
anyways.

NOLF 2 was a great game - too bad it was so short. The first level was gorgeous - especially the start. I haven't seen it in a LONG time, but I remember being taken aback at the waterfall and the initial level bit. Was quite ahead of the rest of the game graphically, the rest was still nice, if not better, but the beginning, oh, that was just HOW to start a game off right if you can't afford stupid amount of art throughout. Get them going then pull the expensive eyecandy down to applicable levels and let gameplay take over. They did and it was nice. Too bad it was sorta a niche title like the first one. Hopefully it doesn't go the way of other great games and disappears.

SomeoneStupid... I keep looking at older games or sales outlet games and that one keps poping up in my mind... it is real cheap at Amazon.com... ( around $10.00 ) and probably will get that along with some other newer game in the coming months...
I played the demo for it..and the reviews by most seem to favor the positive as a good game. I really like film noir games..or ones that have some cinematic fill ins and storylines...
Max Payne was the best at this....as one example

it is a great game, i loved the first one, and i haven't seen NOLF2 around in ages until i found it a week ago for $9 at radioshack so I grabbed it, quite fun, I find it alot more diffictult than the first, I'm just glad so far there isn't any of those insanely hard "Avoid the camera" missions :t

My favorite games period are stealth type games. Avoiding cameras, sneeking around, using strategy, surveying the playing field. Can't get much better then that.
So many games that come out seem to just concwentrate on graphics only..,or are more concerned with the number of enemies, mostly with no point to the whole thing other than shoot shoot shoot.
I want substance. A stroyline that is unigue and well played out. An interesting main character..and any other frills that make it well worth my time. And last but not least, good AI. ;)

God D.I. I was juist playing IGI on the next to last level and breezed through it after replaying for health reasons..ectt.. and just when I got to the very last guy to take out...( I had about 1/4 health and 25 in reserve... He got me.. so here i go again..playing the level over. it is actually easy if you just look and know where they are and use your map and scope rifle ,which allows you to take out the guys on the upper wall patroling from far away ahead of time.... case in point about saved games....again. Great game! the game makers should make another title similar of even a third installment.... they do a really good job....
Max Payne..the first one, was one of the best top ten games ever.
they were the first I believe to use slow motion stop action in the shooting..action sequences... it just rocks.
Max Payne 3 anyone??

I've been getting my kicks out of trying to beat games without dying at all. I restart from the beginning of the level if I die - difficulty levels have dropped. :t Gives some games an entirely different feel, others just can't be played in that fashion, period. Then again, I'm still full of fun opiates and alcohol (the second being against the doc's wishes) but what good have they ever been? So this may not be the best way to replay games. Waiting for my SNES and N64 Mario Carts to come in. The consoles work fine with my tuner once I got the cables sorted. It isn't pretty, but it works. Ogre Battle and Mario Cart are the only games I need my consoles for.

As much as I'd like to admit that I like shooter style games, I totally disliked NOLF2 as well as IGI, because of the respawn of the enemies, which makes it totally annoying when you're waltzing through an already cleared level, just to round a corner and get shot in the face.
Too unrealistic for any shooter games, I must say.
Anyway here's my take:
PC: Jagged Alliance 2 & Diablo 2 :p
Someone Stupid
05-01-2005, 05:27 PM
I just restarted NOLF2 to play again, and I'm finding it glaringly hard to get used to it - I don't know what it is, but it just isn't working for me. I remember the spawning was a downside, but it wasn't that bad provided you kept moving and quiet. I think I"m just getting used to the play and controls from the polish that Riddick and the SC series added to this type of game along with it's inherent differences. Hope so, as it was and hoefully still is a good game.
Playing the SNES version of Ogre Battle ATM though - great game.

I don'y know what game you were playing..but IGI and IGI 2 do not have respawn baddies. I think maybe the enmy must have overwhelmed you some as they do die and there are always just so many setup enemies in each level.
You would have to be a bad judge of games to think these are bad games.... :x

@rr51: I swear they respawned in IGI! For IGI2, they removed the respawn. You could look at the review at IGN over here: http://pc.ign.com/articles/384/384961p2.html
I quote from the review: "Eventually you'll run out of enemies in the area, even if you do take a couple of shots in the meantime. (If you'll take a moment to re-read that last sentence you'll notice that it says "you'll run out of enemies". Congrats people, you no longer have to face the infinite string of baddies pouring out of the clown car.)"
I do like other shooters like call of duty and medal of honor, as well as others like operation flashpoint.
Respawning baddies just turn me off, especially when they respawn right in front of you, and you have to keep your trigger finger on your mouse all the time, just in case one of them respawns in your face (had that happen to me before).
Rabbitrunner51
05-02-2005, 01:40 AM
I can understand if you go the wrong way in the game and not the intended way..they might respawn..but I have played all the game and am having a good time getting through the very last level..keep getting killed ...but I go a little further each time and will get to the end tonight.
In this level ..I did go inside a room ( not the intended direction ) and two of them respawned right in front of me also..but you have to remember....as the walkthrough I have says. The next area is a room with an elevator and if you wait by the door there are three groups of two who comwe after you..and that makes six total.. They came from the room that supposedly respawned ..remember?? That was it.
Some games are made so that it requires you to move on quickly...otherwise the respawn thing happens..but if you go the right ways... they soon stop and do not come after you any more....just the regular baddies where they are placed in the game....
Have played both IGI and IGI 2 three times..and I'm sorry but I just cannot see the respawns...like its a big deal... anyways. if you go onward..that sort of thing stops.
anyways ..enough of that for now...
I want to know what all you guys are getting this month?? So Far...D# Expansion..,BIA,and Cold fear are out..and acouple of MMOPHS...but that is all I see...
June is the month for the biggies...;)
Rabbitrunner51
05-08-2005, 07:55 AM
Sounds mundane ...for this month..as most of you are getting something much newer..but I opted to save some money and still get two games I think I can play for hours and online also...
My picks are Links LS2000 ( best overall reviews ..even though it is an older game and has add on courses and online play..which I never have participated in before)
The other choice is COD United Offensive expansion ..as again it got real good reviews..esp. the added content and vehicle -weapons.. and mostly for the highly rated online play.
Cost about $30.00 for both...
June is going to be big so now is not the time to be extravagant about finances...esp. with myself right now.
