Alright everyone here's the problem thats driving me nuts.
I had a GeForce 4 Ti 4200 and I had it overclocked for about a year kinda high. I always had 60FPS in CS with the v_sync setting on, when I turned v_sync off to get 100FPS I would, but it would be all jumpy and weird looking like I was lagging when I really wasnt. I figured this is because I had the card O/C'ed too high for too long and it wasnt stable, or on its way out, or something. So I bought a new video card.
I just got the GeForce FX 5700 Ultra with all the factory settings, no overclocking or anything. 4400 3DMarks with 3DMark 2003. Like my old Ti 4200, everything ran and looked perfect in CS with the v_sync on and limited at 60FPS, but sure enough as soon as I turned v_sync off to get up to 100FPS I am having the same **** problem...
In counter-strike it looks much worse when the v_sync is off with 100FPS and it makes me feel like I'm lagging. When I'm running forward and turning at the same time its all jumpy and laggy looking (not nice and smooth) I see lines running down the screen. This actually makes me worse of a player thus I am forced to keep v_sync on and stay at 60FPS :(
Please help me! Thanks.

OMG!!! It worked!!! Some random mouse lag Windows XP registry fix I found here (http://www.esreality.com/cs.php?a=post&id=522459) did the job on the part that was making me feel like I was lagging.
But now I still got this line in the screen... Its hard to explain.
When I'm in the game there is this horizontal line that starts at the top and slowly moves evenly down to the bottom of the screen and then over again almost like refreshing it. It's weird, but does anyone know what this can be all about?

Hrmmm... changing from a refresh rate of 144Hz to 150Hz fixed that :D
Now does anyone know how I get over 100FPS?!?!?!
I cant figure that one out either lol.
Thanks,

what is the big deal... 60fps is sufficient enough in cs, i play it at 60 fps and it doesnt ever drop below and it runs smooth as butter

You see lines because vsync isn't enabled, vsync makes those lines go away, running the game at a certain fps... if its disabled there is no cap to the fps and sometimes the screen gets cut into sections while turning because its loading parts faster then others...

also, make sure that you put fps_max 99 in console, just in case

I'm getting a steady 100FPS, those lines and stuff I saw before went away when I turned up the refresh rate on my monitor from 144 to 150Hz and they were gone, I would like to get it up to 160, but I dont think you can run 160Hz in 800 x 600 because there are no settings for that mode for that res anywhere :(

why don't u lower your resolution down to say. 100hz?

Cuz I need to get it higher... 100Hz I can see the screen refreshing. All these werid lines that move down the screen I saw at 144Hz then i put it to 150Hz and 99% of it went away, if I could get it to like 160Hz then it would be perfect! :D

Thats crazy..
I thought the human eye can't see more then the 85 herts
I play with my refreash locked at 85.
So with the refreash locked I have v-sync enabled. I don't get ripping of textures or anything.
Hey drag flamson... It's really not that good of an idea to go above 100 refreash rate cause most games now and then will be hard to hit 100 fps all the time..
That means you'll see BIGGER drops in fps.
Lets say you look at a floor or a wall you'll get like 100 fps when v-sync is on and you have 100 refreash rate.
Then you turn and start to fire on ppl or look at a big area it might drop to like 40 or even like 60 and you will "feel" a drop in your fps greatly.
For the reason of cs not going about 100fps is because you can't. Counter-strike does not allow it.

actually with developer mode 1 and steam CS, then it is really unlimited, can go several hundred, HOWEVER, I found when I did my movement speed was slower

because if you do it's seemless motion because the brain can't tell over 85Hz

Or you can just wave your hand in fron of the monitor or T.V.
