I assume that you started System File Checker, chose "Extract one file from disk," clicked the Browse button, double clicked the System folder, highlighted Kernel32.dll, clicked Open and then Start. On the next window, clicked the browse button to highlight where to restore the file from and then finally clicked OK. This process will indeed replace the file and move the old file to the HelpDesk directory in case the need arises to replace the orginal file.
To check that this happens, move or delete the Kernel32 file from the HelpDesk directory and run System File Checker again as stated above. You'll have another Kerenl32 file in the HelpDesk directory again.
By the way, I assume you have Windows98 (can't recall if 95 had this feature or not)but if you have Windows95, that file is bugged and a download is available at MS.

Everything worked except you didn't ask how I knew the replacement didn't work. The dates, the date on the oringinal is created may 1998 and it is connected to all the files because I have a tool that shows where programs and files are connected to. The new file has the create date today and is in the helpdesk of sfc and is conneted to nothin. Got anothe answer. I think it didn't swithch because the file was in use.

Do we a have a miss understanding here?
The file in the HelpDesk folder will have a creation date corresponding to the time and date it was created IN that folder. Which in your case is today. The replacement file from the Win98 CD-ROM will have its' original creation date.
The Sysytem File Checker will replace files that are in current use. It the only way to replace those types of files.
Which programs are causing the faults?

I have had it with invalid page faults in kernel32.dll. So today I extracted it from CAB files. Now I must have miss understood. I though once you told system file checker to extract that it changes the file. No that's not what happened. There's a kernel32 in windows system file where it should be,But it's the one i want to change, and there the kernel32 in windows\helpdesk\sfc. It's connected to nothin. How can i replace the one in system files that I feel is corruped??????

Too many to mention but kernel32.dll is 50% of where it puts the fault.because there are other modules I waited because I wanted a constant and there is not a constant.I've made many, many changes and run a bland system just because I want to trace errors and the more programs the harder to trace

How about starting from scratch. Run FDisk, Format and do a clean install. Install the hardware and the associated drivers, update the drivers. Do this one card at a time. Get on the net the update Windows components thru MS Update. Install one application at a time then update and patch it. Then install the next one. Do this methodically. It'll be a drag but it may be the best way. Do the preperation work and get all the most recent drivers together and all the program patches with the updates if any. This will ease some of the pain. Sorry I can't be of more help.
