Gang I need some help. I am still weighing my options of going AMD 64 or AMD XP 3200, but this question has to do with front side bus. I listed a few questions below:

1.) What exactly effects the FSB????

2.) How can you make sure you have the optimum speed ????

3.) I have read that FSB is fixed with the AMD 64. Is this correct?? And if not, does just the DDR speed effect that????

Thanks........

FSB

"The bus that connects the CPU to main memory on the motherboard. I/O buses, which connect the CPU with the systems other components, branch off of the system bus."

As you can tell, this bus is important. The more/faster the cpu and memory talk to each other, the better.

You can buy Athlon 64 3200+ processors now, and AMD has announced the release of the 3400+ running at 2.2GHz.

The standard Athlon 64 has the memory controller on the processor running at the processor's speed, not at the speed of the FSB, which is 200MHz maximum.

The standard Athlon 64's memory controller can only run DDR400 RAM in single-channel mode (400MHz), but the much more expensive Athlon 64 FX-51 can run it in dual-channel mode, which is effectively at 800MHz.

The Athlon 64 is much faster than the Athlon XP 3200+.
