hope this is not a sign of things to come or im in trouble .
p.s. iknow its an alpha leak but it doesnt fill me with confidence.

Here's some benchmarks.

Your settings might be way to high, or something is wrong with your "leak".

your going to get bad performance from a half finshed game, my best advice to you would be not to base ur findings on a "leaked" half complet game.

yeah don't base it on alpha ****. ID software wants everyones money, even those with lame machines (not meaning yours). They'll make sure it runs on machines far below yours I would think.

As stated this is an alpha and so the engine has not yet been optimised for all hardware, heck, even Betas run significantly slower than the finished article, so its best not to draw conclusions based on the strength of pre-release versions (uinless official demos)

Also, bear in mind the Doom 3 Alpha is illegal software, so mods will be watchign this thread closely

I think those that waste the time downloading illegal alpha garbage are punished in a special way when they try to play it :)

Strange review on Tom's. An XP2700 for some game tests and P4 3.06 for others. What's up with that?
Low scores in 3DMark 2001SE and 3DMark03, too. I admit that I don't know much about which AMD cpu's are supposed to be fast (I never could figure out their model #s / mHz thing), but my scores with an OC'd P4 1.8a are better - and I don't consider them great.

3DMark 2001SE and 3DMark03 usually give AMD lower scores, but when it comes to actual game benchmarks AMD holds it's own. In that review they were comparing the Nvidia to the ATI (not the intel to the amd). They only used the faster Intel for the DOOM 3 benchmarks to test the fastest CPU at the time to see how well it would run DOOM 3, they werent comparing it to the 2700+.

I don't know, AMDs seem to have some pretty good scores in both 3DMark versions. I think they give a pretty good indication of how a system will perform over a broad range of games. Regardless, even the P4 3.06 scores seem low. I'm running a P4 1.8a and Radeon 9800 Pro, both mildly OC'd and my scores are 16850 and 6452, quite a bit higher than the scores he got.

By using an nVidia supplied Intel computer for one test and AMD for the others, it gives the appearance of impropriety. I don't know if he could have used the nVidia supplied computer for the other tests (though he did change the video card), but it's customary to use one system across the board or give all the results using both systems. Since the review was about the cards, not the cpu, the tests should have been run with the same computer.

I had a lot of enjoyable email correspondence with Tom a while back when he was working on a special driving simulator and I recommended nVidia cards, and again had the pleasure of helping him when he had trouble with the nVidia drivers. I know Tom is a little biased toward nVidia now, and toward AMD. I know he doesn't write the reviews, but he should go over them and watch this stuff a little closer.

BTW, I have nVidia and ATI cards and like them both. I got the Radeon 9800 Pro because at $214 shipped, it was hard to resist.

I agree. I'm going to wait for the reviews AFTER Doom 3 and halflife 2 come out and not worry about it.
I bet Croteam can bring Serious Sam 2 out on time though.
Enjoy!

My interest in Doom 3 significantly waned after the announcment of Half Life 2, indeed, if HL2 delivers i may skip Doom 3 all together until it goes budget
