Hello
I need some advice on setting up 3 old pcs for a youth outreach program. The organisation involved has been given some old Pcs to do this with however the specs are very limited eg: Celeron 366 Mhz 128 Meg of Ram 2 Meg video etc.
Is there a flavor of Linux that is better suited to running very basic games on these old machines?
Also what is the best place to download the games.
Thanks in advance any advice will be greatly appreciated.

djam1,

The neat thing about Linux is that you can configure its role very easily: from a simple web surfing machine to a web server. But do read up some on Linux - it will help you in the long run.

For what you want to accomplish, try Knoppix (which can be run from a CD - no need to install on hard drive), Slackware, Mandrake, Red Hat. I can attest to Mandrake 9.2 being bundled with open source software games that are pretty enjoyable. Even my son, who's into more sophisticated games has to have his TuxRacer fix once in a while.

Anyway, a collection of Linux distributions can be found here:

http://www.linuxiso.org/

The site allows you to download ISO files (caution: some can be large ~700MB) which, when burned to a CD-ROM, become full-blown installation packages.

Hope this helps and good luck.
