PCI Bridge

Installled NIC cards,hub,etc. on a home net. Two PC's at this time.Running Win95B on both. Both machines are 'clones'. Both run fine and no apparant problem with the network. On one machine in Device Manager is a listing of "Other Devices" and opened is PCI Bridge. Went to drivers and attempted to load new drivers with no success, no drivers available from any disc or motherboard CD. The motherboard is Amptron 9900A. So the question is what drivers are needed for the PCI Bridge and is the PCI Bridge needed? If not how to remove it from Device Manager and should I be concerned with it as everything seems to function OK. Please feel free to email with suggestions and thank you.

OK, dwnld is done. What is the necessity of the PCI Bridge if every thing works? What is it's purpose? Thanks for the link.

Is EVERYTHING working ? Do you have any USB devices installed??

It may be that the PCI bridge you refer to has something to do with expanding the electrical loading capabilities of the PCI bus and/or with regard to USB - at least that is the "razzle-dazzle" I got when I asked network tech at work.

It might not be working, but if you didn't have any devices that are dependent on it you would never know.

It is one of those OS coding glitches that didn't take into acount the AGP bus when Windows95 came out

Also read somewhere that AMI bios had glitch that didn't remove exclamation when indeed the driver and device were installed properly......

OK, I do have a new motherboard and it is an AMI bios. No USB devices. The cpu is an AMD K6-2 300. An email reply sounds right on and the first chance I'll have a go at the suggestion. If interested in the email reply the following is included. Thanks for your advice.

I had a similar problem when building a system using an AMD k6-2 350 and a
FIC PA-2013. Here is the advice I recieved.

"i have the same cpu on a nmc 5vmmx (german distributor) also at 350
mhz. i found out that win95 detects the "pci-bridge" because it doesn't
know what to do with the agp port on the motherboard. as i know the
amdk6-2 is already prepared for agp, so it might be that win95 detects
this unknown device even if it's not on the motherboard. win95 is not
prepared for this option, but the 3DNow! technology on the amdk6-2 is!
anyways, the problem disappeared after installing the universal serial
bus controller, which can be found in the net be searching for
"usbsupp.exe" and enabling the usb in the bios. if you have an agp board
this will be absolutely necessary before win95 can detect the
agp-graphics-card.
