Im not happy with my compys performance in cs at the moment.. specs.
asus p4c800 deluxe mobo
2.0ghz p4
1gig ddr ram (single channel)
geforce fx 5900
15 inc flatscreen monitor
wireless mouse/keyboard
DSL
40gb HDD ( problem is its ata, 5200rpm, upgrading soon but this shouldt be the fps problem)
I know this isnt the best configuration for gaming with the lcd monitor and the wireless mouse/keyboard, but i like it. The monitor isnt the problem, even tho it runs at 60 hz, i dont get a full 60 fps in CS. in aztec and playground x, fps jumps down to the 30-50 range... CS was made for lower end compys and i doubt my compy should be going down to even 50. on 3dmark03 i get 5000. I keep vsync on cuz when its off, cs looks ugly and jaggy....ish... besides that all is fine, latest drivers and all.. any ideas on how i can get straight 60 (max lcd) ?

I dunno much about the LCD screens, except I've read that they're not as "fast" as CRTs for gaming. Maybe you should
1. Reduce your resolution (640x480?).
2. Maybe it's the server you're playing on - or it could be your ISP?
Things to check, hope it helps.

Do you have Vsync on?

a connection with lots of choke and/or packetloss would cause choppy gameplay, net_graph 3 to see that.

Try a DSL filter if you are experiencing bad connection problems. :t

That 3dmark 2003 score is about right for a 5900 with Vsync on.
vsync is on, dsl wouldnt cause low fps...... 0 choke 0 packet loss, rates are fine.
gonna try reinstalling cs.... will keep u guys updated

Turn Vsync off, your scores should rise markedly

even with vsync on that rig should be getting constant 60fps and not 30-50

Not quite, though Vsync supposedly caps things at whatever the refresh rate, the result is not always that simple. Indeed Vsync lowers the FPS in general to a number below 60FPS which becomes a maximum limit, rather than a constant . As such it is possible to have a scene display at, for example 80FPS without Vsync and only 55FPS with Vsync on at 60Hz, as such performance as a whole is lowered with a maximum cap of 60FPS

WEll.. i tried vsync on... turned fps_max to 75 ( which i think is max for my monitor, not 60) and got some crazy screen jittering. The picture would tear in certaion places, meaning there are too many frames being shown, and my monitor isnt proccessing them all.. So i tried setting fps_max to 60.... didnt help, had to turn vsync back on. Now the picture is fine.. but i still get some low fps at times. you know though.... im getting a weird feeling about cs.. when i tried setting fps max to 50, it still went to 60. even tried messing with my video card settings and overrides. Eh here i go to that reinstall, wish me luck.

Consult your motherboard manual and see what your maximum refresh rate (in Hz) is at the paticular resolution you are using, then set the driver refresh rate setting accordingly and enable vsync
