I'm trying to find out why my friend's PC won't boot.

After the RAM check it stops, and reports:

Auto-Config Error 03:03
Bus#:00 Device#: 02 Funtion#: 00

I can't find out what this error means, and what I can do about it.
The BIOS is AMIBIOS version 1.00.16.AXI
The motherboard manual calls itself a
Premiere/PCI II Pentium processor Baby-AT Baseboard.

Other symptoms are:

There are no beep codes.

When I go into the setup screens it reports that there is no C: drive
present.

The C: drive is set to auto-configure. Manually setting the parameters does
not help. (The HDD is a Western Digital WDC31000H, 2100 cyl, 16 head, 63
sect, 1083.8 Mb)

The system will boot off a floppy in A:. It still can't find C:.

The computer worked until my friend moved house. After a couple of months
she set it up, but it has never worked. I've tried checking the connections
and swapping the ribbon cable.

Any advice would be most appreciated.

Thanks
Ian Shaw

Check to see if the master/slave jumper fell off during the move....

Western Digital drives don't need a jumper to work as a Master.

Make sure the BIOS chip and any other socketed chips are firmly seated. There is a tendency for socketed ICs to migrate out of their sockets over time.
