I ordered the Office 2000 Service Pack 3 cd-rom, and according to Microsoft:
"The CD contains the Service Release 1a update and the Service Pack 3 update, even though it is labeled "The Office 2000 Service Pack 3 CD" on the CD ordering form."
The problem is, Microsoft says to install sr-1a before installing Service Pack 3. But where is the sr-1a update on the cd-rom? The cd has these files:
/AUTORUN.INF
/SP3INST.HTM
/CDLAUNCH/SHELEXEC.EXE
/SP3/ADMIN/O2KSP3A.EXE
/SP3/ADMIN/OWSSP3A.EXE
/SP3/STANDARD/OWSSP3CD.EXE
/SP3/STANDARD/SP3CDPAK.EXE
Has anyone used this cd to install sr-1a? I keep getting errors trying to download the sr-1a update, which is why I ordered the cd.
No I haven’t, but for now why not simply update using the SR1a setup file that needs to be downloaded from the Office 2000 update page. Then install SP3 from disc.
The problem with installing SP3 from disc is that on subsequent post SP3 updating the update page will ask you to update to SP3 first – go figure – before it is possible to install post SP3 updates.

In theory, the SP3 update should have all previous updates included.
Might also keep in mind that SR1a and or SP3, I forget which, was when M$ introduced "Activation."
Steve it my indeed be the case that SR1a is part of SP3 for this CD-ROM offer.
Office activation is not applicable to O2K but OXP onwards.
However, as with W2K there where EULA changes which gave M$ additional powers to O2K SP3 and W2K SP3.

Contrary to what Microsoft claims is on this sp3 cd (see first post), there is no sr1a update included. I attempted to install the update on the cd, but received a message stating that the necessary version of Office2000 wasn't found. This is what I expected without the sr1a installed.
After my 6th!!! attempt at downloading the sr1a (about 4hrs each try on dial-up) the update correctly installed. I was then able to install the sp3 also.
Unfortunately this sp3 update cd is the only cd available for ordering on the Microsoft Office 2000 website. And for some reason Microsoft incorrectly states that the sr1a update is included on it.
It sure is a pain when the SR1a D/L is interrupted by disconnection.
However, if you keep the D/L of SR1a as it remains on the screen (do not cancel or reboot), simply dialup again and the SR1a D/L will continue where it left off.
Unfortunately M$ have not, as far as I know, given the SR1a as a D/L as is the case with all other SR updates. The SR1a update will need to be executed and then the real SR1a D/L will begin. This is a pain for users of dial-up. I wonder what will happen when the SR1a setup file is not longer available as O2K’s services updates have been erased.
I am glad you got it sorted and I hope this tip helps for next time.
If anyone has the SR1a D/L (not the SR1a setup file) or knows where it can be located I would like to know.
