Just wondering if anyone knew of the eyesight regulations for the RAF. As far as i know only pilots/navigators and officers must undergo an eye examination as a general rule, and while i do require glasses my eyesight isnt terrible, however was wondering if any restrictions would be placed on me if i were to inquire as to a position as a regiment gunner or regiment officer
Any word would be greatly appreciated
Cheers

well, not sure about that, but I know that if you like to drink booze while on the job, that would make you more than qualified to be a United or Nortwestern airline pilot!!:D

Can I join up if I wear glasses?
Yes, provided your eyesight is above a certain standard.
From http://www.rafregiment.co.uk/faqs.htm
As long as you can see without the aid of a couple of coke bottle bottoms strapped to your face, you'll probably be OK :D

Cheers Bawb, all i have to do now is wait and see if my A-Levels turn out to be an unmitigated disaster (this year is self destruct year) and then join straight up, or go to uni... and then join up

I blew my A-Levels big time, but it didn't make much difference in the end - I had a lot of fun those two years :D I've got a mate who signed up with the RAF as a pilot at uni - they gave him financial support all the way through on the condition that he joined after he got his degree. Cash and a guaranteed job, he was a happy man.

I was gonna do that up until a couple of years aho basically lookign at an engineering degree, but all that masths and science mumbo jumo isnt really me, so i kinda went away from it. Im not really a 9-5 or clerical type and have always been into military-esque things but given the reputation the Army has the RAF regiment seems to grant the best of both worlds
