Hi. I just bought a Fire Port 40 Ultra Wide controller and I was really wanted to see the speed diference in my Baracuda Ultra Wide drive (I was using and ultra controller before). I set the max sync transfer rate for the drive to 40 MB/S and the bus to 16 bits. After I copied a file or two I got a drive write protect error. This happened even when I turned down the max trasfer rate to 20 MB/S. The only time the drive worked normaly was when I turned the transfer rate to 10 MB/S. It seems that I can only work at that setting no matter if the bus is set to 8 or 16 bits. I had the same problem with my old Adaptec Ultra controller. Can anyone tell me what is wrong and how can I fix it. I checked my drive on Seagates page and it is an Ultra Wide drive.
Thanks in advance.
Forgot to ask.
How many devices do you have?
How many have termination?
The card and the last device should have termination, none should in between.

I went through 5 different cables, and still there is no luck. I have only the drive and the SCSI controler inside the computer, and a Jazz drive as external. The drive is terminated, and both the Jazz and the controler have auto termination.
Once again I apreciate all the help.
Ah, try disconnecting ALL the externals. I forgot why but when you do all 3 of these:
wide SCSI
narrow SCSI
external SCSI
you can have problems.
Good luck.

Thanks I will try that.
Hey! Let me know what happens.
I'm surprised others did not respond. Many hear know far more about SCSI than I.
