I was looking into this, but haven't found out to much about it yet. Sounds like a great idea, and something I would look to do. Let me know if you end up trying it and how it is! Here's a link: http://www.alcohol-software.com The Lodge 02-16-2004, 01:26 AM Virtualdrive or gamedrive (http://www.farstone.com/home/en/index.shtml) Yoshi 02-16-2004, 01:52 AM Thanks guys it was GAMEDRIVE Paco103 02-16-2004, 02:01 AM I use Alcohol 120. It's great if you move around a lot or do LAN parties, etc. I rip all my CD's to my hard drive (bought a seperate HD just for that). Then I have all my CD's at LAN parties and don't have to carry that huge binder :\ It also keeps me from having to bring all of my originals to the dorm, and shuffling them around a lot and scratching them and losing them. I don't even have to deal with cracks that way. rmanet 02-17-2004, 11:08 PM there's plenty of software available for legitimately backing up owned software for private use on your own computer - let's please make sure this thread follows the forum rules please - thanks ;) Yoshi 02-18-2004, 01:28 AM Originally posted by rmanet there's plenty of software available for legitimately backing up owned software for private use on your own computer - let's please make sure this thread follows the forum rules please - thanks ;) I don't want to do anything illigal, just hate to fumble around from CD to CD, and scratches and losing CDs mlcarr 02-18-2004, 01:35 AM Which of the above mentioned programs are illegal? I'm interested in the samething, but want to be legal about it!:D comp_nut 02-18-2004, 08:48 AM Originally posted by mlcarr Which of the above mentioned programs are illegal? I'm interested in the samething, but want to be legal about it!:D Alcohol 120 is totally legal Paco103 02-18-2004, 12:57 PM All the *programs* are legal. . . it's the possible uses that can become questionable, and that's why he was warning us about keeping it legit on this board. Using Alcohol or GameDrive or whatever to image *YOUR* games on your HD is entirely legal with 95% of software. . . but technically you should still consult the EULA. Although in my opinion they have a right to complain about me giving copies away, ripping a game is just like ripping an MP3. . . if it's for my own personal use and I own the license, why should it bother them?! FrnchDp 02-18-2004, 01:22 PM Originally posted by mlcarr Which of the above mentioned programs are illegal? I'm interested in the samething, but want to be legal about it!:D Kinda like owning a gun.. it's legal. But shooting ppl isn't! As long as you're backing up your legally owned software, any backup program can be used!.. as long as that program was obtained legally! In a legal sort of way... :t PacNW CE 02-18-2004, 04:00 PM I have gamedrive. It works well for games up until about 2002. It wouldn't copy Morrowind, Splinter Cell, C&C Generals, or Dungeon Seige. I had a problem yesterday with the software though. I got a "corrupt file" message, and all the CDs I had copied to the registry deleted. Now I have to reinstall all the games. Not a big deal cuz I own all the CDs, but a hassle none the less. I thought the software would be cooler than it is. It really is a novelty to me. BadBadNeil 02-19-2004, 10:22 AM You can just go to gamecopyworld and get the nocd exe for the game. It allows you to play your game wtihout the cd which in cases can signifigantly increase speed. That way its a single file and you dont need to rip the whole thing. rikpo 02-21-2004, 09:55 AM Alchohol 120% is a legit program and here is the link. [Link Removed - Imperion1] just do a search for it. rikpo@lantic.net rmanet 02-22-2004, 09:44 AM legit programs, except you all should note just yesterday the NYTimes noted a judge's decision some DVD copying software was illegal. The site you mention is not just about legitimate uses of game copying software - last time I dropped in on this type of forum and gave a similar polite warning very early on, it went on for days and completely ignore AUP - closing the thread so we don't have a repeat - you have your answers. If anyone wants to debate the issue, use the community forum. Thanks. SysOpt.com
