I have 2 CD-ROMS that were perfectly working with my Win98 OS. Both Panasonic; 32x Cd-ROM and a CD-recorder. Out of the BLUE, Win98 doesn't detect that I have them. This is rather odd because 3-4 hours beforehand it was working, and I haven't rebooted the computer. I am very literate with computers and I have never seen anything like this. As usual, I would go to Device manager. There I find that the IDE BUS MASTER Controller has 2 sub-drivers; Primary and Secondary IDE controller that are both highlighted with (!)exclamation. I figured I must have a BAD IDE driver and replace with a new one. I went into Safe mode and removed the driver, just as I expected, on the reboot it detected New hardware. Unfortunately, all the Abit BH6 Motherboard IDE drivers are on CD(stupid huh?). so I downloaded the drivers from Abit website and decided to Run them. I then found out that Abit hasn't updated any of their drivers and are still for Win95(won't work for Win98). So I'm stuck with No CD-ROMs for a while. I thought of reinstalling Win98 so all the devices work, but that may cause more problems with the applications and Drivers.
What should I do?!?
Update:
More Info, Right now I get a MS-DOS mode compatibility since Im using the DOS based drivers. When I remove them, the CD-ROMS are gone. The Primary and Secondary still have the errors on it (!). I think this one is one of those "MUST REINSTALL OS" situations.
