I have a Abit BH6 Motherboard with a Celeron 300a running with a user defined setting of (66*4.5) and Award BIOS. I have connected my new cdrom on the secondary IDE as master. Within Master BIOS I'm useing Auto detect secondary IDE. Furthermore I can see that BIOS did detect my CDrom during POST. The problem is this. When building the DOS diver from cdmke44.sys I receive the message: CD player not found, Check power and cables. I have checked and rechecked conections. How can this be possible if the drive was detected during POST? Thanks in advance Bob the Novice.

Pull the jumper and let it float...

Does your comment mean: Remove the master/slave dip switch and let BIOS figure it out, OR my CDrom is trash.

Does your BIOS have an option for "Plug N' Play OS?"?
Is there perhaps another drive on the secondary IDE already set as master? Does the drive work as slave on the primary IDE? If so perhaps it has the wrong port address on device line of config.sys, port 168 instead of port 170 ( I think it's in config.sys - been awhile since I had a CD in there)
Did you try not loading the DOS driver?
