Can't install NIC card.

I'm running Win XP and I have a PCI Belkin NIC card that I want to install.

I have installed it into different slots but Windows won't recognize it as "New Hardware".

It has a yellow explanation mark in the Device Manager but won't let me update driver.

I have also tried to other cards with the same results.

I have gone into the "Setup" but don't see anything to "tweak".

Any ideas?

Do you have a FCC#? or perhaps a model #? You could always try going to their website and looking for a proper driver.

Look here for model # F5D5000 and perheps try that driver.

1. Possible that it (the card) could be damaged. Have you tried installing it in another PC?

2. How about uninstalling it from Device manager, and then rebooting and having Windows try to find it again?

3. "I have also tried to other cards with the same results." Did you mean that you tried two other NICs on the same motherboard? If so, you might want to check the bios to see if there's something in the PCI setup that's farked up.

NO

Been there done that.

Same Mobo. What would I look for in bios?

Also here is a message on the Device Mgr.

The "Device status says: "The device is not configured correctly.
(Code 1)
To reinstall drivers for this device click "Reinstall Drivers.

Have other PCI cards worked on that mobo, sound etc?

If they have try changing your OS to NOT Plug & Play and check for IRQ conflicts.

If they haven't worked before or you haven't tried before look at the PCI settings in your bios & your IRQ's

If all else fails you could restore your bios defaults, but that's your decision ;)
You could also try ,(if you have any) remove all other cards you don't need, (sound or whatever) install the NIC then the other cards.

** What to look for in bios, find your PCI setup/settings: Set IRQ to AUTO

I always find it best to leave an empty slot between cards if you can and try not to use the slot closest to your AGP.

Good luck

Where is the Plug & Play "on & off"?

Don't see any PCI settings in your bios, where would I look?

It depends on what bios you have installed, which mobo and how old it is, there are too many variations to say specifically.

What is your mobo & bios make? Maybe someone will have the same & tell you. It will be quicker & easier to look through all the menus you should see "someting" to do with plug & play and PCI configuration or setup or settings or someting like that.

If not in the main pages you will have to look through each indavidual item/option
