I need a bit of advice.

Does anyone know of this is a good deal? My mother purchased this and asked my opinion. I told I though it was an OK deal. The thing is she needs something small enough for a motor home that they retired to. The PC she has takes up too much room so she needs something small.

$799 Gateway Profile 2 (http://www.asseenontvpc.com/cgi-bin/SoftCart.exe/gateway.asp?L+scstore+qsyw4078ff081b08+1000170459) . 90 Day Warranty provided by Gateway, she said she has a 30--day money back I guess she ordered it last night after seeing it on a local channel.

Gateway (http://www.gateway.com/reman/hm_reman_all-in-one_matrix.asp) has something similar for $1099-1199.

Howdy! Given her space restrictions, I think she could've done worse. It's a little weak in the processor department.

As far as firsthand experience, a friend of mine has one of these. It died on her within a week of recieving it. Gateway's tech support diagnosed the problem as a bad PS, and mailed her a new one. Her's is a PIII 850, and it has a 90W PS! Replacement was simple enough, esp. considering the dinky case. It booted up on the first try. I left for a 3 month trip (which I'm just now wrapping up) shortly thereafter, so I don't know if she's had any problems since. Hopefully your mother won't have that problem.

So, in a nutshell, seems like a good deal for her, beware of PS issues, and it's easy to fix! Plus, she's already bought it, so hope for the best, but keep looking for better deals in the meantime! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Seems weak in the processor and RAM area. What computer comes with 64MB these days?? Otherwise I like the concept, and she really did not go overboard spending on it either.

Thanks.

Will a standard PSU work if hers goes bad?

in my experience, gateways have sucked for numerous reasons, so regardless of processor, memory, hd space, etc., it's not a good deal. just my opinion.

I really think this deal is not too good!
I think she could do better with a clone computer! Jeez... my system components (all of them except the monitor and cd\rw) total cost was like $800 and I have a T-bird 1.2ghz with Gigabyte mobo, 256 ram, 20gb HD, bla bla bla!

Yes but you have to take in account that she is getting an LCD monitor, not a CRT. And the computers uses laptop technology to store the components neatly behind the screen. Technological advancement does come at a price, and deservedly so.

eagle1, " she could do better with a clone computer! "?? From where? You can't build this thing. Did you even look at it?

toastmaster, did you even look at it?

A search at Price Watch turned up a similar monitor for $486 plus shipping of "$30& up". So the price does seem very reasonable.

Well jad1097..to me that computer looks exceptional for your Mom..the CPU is plenty fast enough for what I assume she will be doing with it, and the ram is fine..and it does look cool..and takes up no space almost..perfect for an RV..or anyone that wants net access and a small footprint
