Scratch the XP2700, get the XP2500. Scratch the SLK HSF and get the Speeze Falconrock. That alone with save you over $50 between those 2 parts.

Does he really need a SB Audigy 2 Platinum? Those are cost $$$. Maybe an Audigy 1 would suffice?

DDR3200 will be fine.

How's the civic these days? How much oil does it burn?........i've owned old Honda's too.

He doesn't need a sound card at all. The A7N8X sound is fine for general use. I agree on the 2500 Barton.

Make sure that the PSU is a genuine 400W unit. I can tell by the way you tossed that into the list that you don't respect it enough. I'd rather see you get a name-brand 300W like this one:

Nah, the socket-939 CPUs'll likely be pricey, and the 64-bit world isn't common enough yet, software-wise.

Doesn't make a lot of sense to build a 64bit system when 64bit doesn't really exist. Wait until 64bit is the norm, then go ahead and build some kick-**** 64bit system. That just makes way more sense.

If it were me, I would build an adequate but not pricey system now.
Not only 64 bit, but the entire industry will change with the introducion of BTX PLUS 64 bit processing....when they iron the kinks out of that format, then I will build a **** kicker.
