Got a WD Protege, Model #wd80eb-28cgh1 out of a X-Box, is there any way to get rid of the password or unlock it, so that I can use the HD in other computer.
My X-Box died.
I would Like to be able to use the HD, can't find any information at WD web site.
A low level format would be fine.

Try Zap:

http://service.boulder.ibm.com/storage/hddtech/zap.exe

Unzip that and read the README.

Don't forget to jumper it properly.

hey Bpb - lost the original link for zap - thanks for recovering it :t

- it's a small file and will usually fit on any boot floppy disk so it's very helpful when undoing maxtors formatting, other HDD problems, etc.

be sure to use the WD diagnostics?

What am I missing, set jumper to CS, connected HD to 40-pin, 80-wire cable, blue end is connected to a Promise Ultra ATA-100 controller, the black end is connected to the HD.
The card is in my Dell Power Edge 4100/200 I know slow, but it works. The card works fine with the Win NT4.0, there's a tape back up connected to it, the tape back up is on IDE1, the WD-HD is on IDE-2.
After connecting the HD to the Ultra-100, started the computer, when it got to where it shows that its detecting the HD the computer just froze in it's tracks.
It didn't even show that the tape backup was there nothing, could the HD be dead, it is spinning.

The tape drive should not be on IDE 1. It should be a slave on IDE 2. You could make it slave to the WD on the Promise. Please do that.

When you change to a card controller, you must change the boot sequence. your drive is now a SCSI drive as far as BIOS is concerned.

Red_kgb.
Welcome to Sysopt.
I wasn't able to get my HD to work, you might want to try here: http://www.tivohelp.com/archive/tivohelp.swiki.net/17
There's suppose to be some kind of password that locks you out of the drive, this site should help.
Found this site by typing qunlock.exe on google.com and search.
Hope this helps, Good Luck:t
