Hi all,

I have recently been forced to upgrade from my Gigabyte board to an FIC AU13. I have installed the latest board drivers from the FIC site and my device manager is still listing all Hard Drives and CD/DVD drives as SCSI devices.
Is there anything wrong with this? And can I do anything to make it see them as EIDE? Because ever since the upgrade I have had trouble burning CDs or DVDs with Nero 6.3.0.2 and I have flashed my TDK indiDVD 440N drive to the latest firmware so that should all set.

Thanks.

On Windows NT/2000/XP, Device Manager will report SCSI devices if you're using third-party mass storage drivers. This is perfectly normal behaviour, natural by design.

Did you do a fresh OS install when you swapped out motherboards? Or did you just switch them then install the drivers for the new motherboard?
Its better to do a fresh install when you're changing motherboards. Unless you're changing with an identical board.

Yes actually, I did a fresh install given that when my board went down it was a complete start over for me.

As for third party mass storage drivers Im not sure how you mean.
I'm using two western digital hard drives, neither is connected to a raid card (which would make the SCSI thing seem normal) all four of my devices are plugged straight into primary or secondary IDE connectors. It's an nForce2 chipset if that tells you anything. I was hoping there was something stupid or simple I could change to fix this. My old Gigabyte board only ever showed SCSI when hooked up to the RAID channels. :( I miss my old board.

Oh and I forgot to add, would any of this explain why Im having trouble burning a DVD with my TDK indiDVD 440N with Nero 6.3.0.2? Or should I be looking for something else? It keeps telling me the SCSI command was aborted and then it says burn process failed. I dont want to have to try many more things to get it working since blanks are $1.50+ per disc.

That means the drivers for your IDE controller. Are you using nVidia's drivers or Microsoft's? If you're using anyone but Microsoft's, then they'll be reported as SCSI.

Also, are your drives running in Ultra DMA mode? That could help a lot.

Did you select the SW IDE drivers when you installed the nForce2 drivers?

Alrighty, :)

I am using the drivers nvidia provides and there was only one checkbox to select when installing them so I guess I did what I could there.

Anywho, I got it fixed... I uninstalled and reinstalled nero, turned off, then unplugged my sony cd/rw.. now my tdk burns everything fine again.. I think the sony is headed for the dumpster.

Thanks for the suggestions and efforts guys. :t
