My friend has a "Patriot" Computer (they sold them in Canada, only I think - and I think that the company no longer exists, they were designed for family eductional software.) that I had to perform a clean install of Windows 98 SE on it. I cannot get the sound card to work - it just states in the Device Manager as a "Unknown PCI Audio Device".... The computer has a Motorola PCI Speakerphone modem which, after a bit of trouble, seems to be working.... is there a IRQ conflict here or something? There is a "line in" jack and microphone jack for the speakerphone modem, but the sound card had the speakers hooked up to it. The sound card is weird, it is part of a board that also includes the USB hub and other hardware? Does this make any sense? Anyways, I need to get the sound working again and I have no idea what type of sound card it is. Email me at clechner@hotmail.com.

If the sound is part of the board, you will need the motherboard drivers to install it. Most likely Windows will NOT have this driver. Have you done a search at google for Patriot computers?

I found a few (http://www.google.com/search?q=patriot+computers) .

Hi,
Patroit did indeed went out of business I use to work for them. The best thing to do is
to remove modem, start in safe mode go to device manager remove modem and sound card.
On the mobo cd you will find the sound card driver install it. Then reinstall modem, and check in device manager for irq or dma conflict.

Regards...
