As far as I know, PCChips motherboards cannot be overclocked.

considering they're so problematic (but I still used 'em for years - even for a P4) they have a big following

IMO PC-Chips are the worst ever.
Everytime I see one it's DEAD!:(

ooohhh, another bullsh*t attractor thread.

PC-Chips mainboards are no-nonsense boards, offering just what the chipset has and that's it. Apart from a few exceptions, they have zero overclocking features at all.

The idea is, you plug the stuff together, run everything at stock speeds, and it works.

And work they do - don't believe the BS parrot above me.

Sorry.......I didn't know you were so sensitive.

Would it be OK with you If I say that "ALL" had been in non-working condition.;)

I have used a PCchips board before and had no problems with it it even could overclock some.

I've heard of people flashing certain PC Chips motherboards with the Cheepoman BIOS used in the ECS K7S5A boards and they were able to overclock decently with it.

So they're the worst because all the ones you've seen were dead?

If all the Asus/Abit/etc. boards I ever saw were dead, would that make them the worst?

Not to me.

I use PC Chips and Amptron boards every week building PC's for the general market here in Colombia. They are NO worse than any other boards, all have some failures INCLUDING Intel and AMD boards. They are absolutely stable for the purpose they were intended for i.e., NO overclocking and they are not gamers boards but more than adequate for the internet and office and general use.

Spot the "looking for a fight" post... You summed it up sm8000 -

:D

PC-Chips boards are fine for what they do, and (as has already been mentioned) don't have any higher failure rate than any other make.

hi - a little ot but maybe some1 knows - i bought a new pcchips m811lu v.3.1 from newegg.com along with a AMD ATHALON MP PALOMINO 1.2 / 266fsb

put everything together (256 - pc2100) - fired it up - it booted for about 10 secs then went blank - nothing no way no how.

of course i did the cmos short pin 1-2 and set fsb to 100 (just to be careful).

i saw it POST and i went to enter setup - it died before i hit the delete key. taking off the heatsink, i noticed the cpu was quite hot for 10 secs and even the heatsink was warm to touch - in about 10secs!!

reading reviews for PCCHIPS M811LU mobo on newegg - it looks like about 20-30% of the ppl get a "bad board" and have to RMA.

my question is THIS;

1. does the M811LU specifically support the ATHALON MP 1.2ghz/ 266fsb PALOMINO? can i run this cpu in a M811LU?

all the specs i see for M811LU say ahtalon XP/ Duron - the specs never mention MP specifically - i cant find a huge difference between the MP and XP - die size, l2 cache, etc . shouldn't this mobo take a MP??

2. i suspect that what happened is the M811LU over-volted the athalon MP 1.2 /266 i put in it. i didnt want to risk another cpu so i RMA'ed both mobo and cpu back to newegg.

3. does nebody know the voltgage specs for M811LU? is there a jumper/setting for voltage on the M811LU?

thx

well, they actually tend to be LESS failure prone than some of the big-name boards, because they possess a simpler, cleaner design, with fewer parts that can fail.

To all naysayers:

You know a lot of these "name" boards come out of the same factories as the pcchips? If not, then hello.:r

toolz, I suspect you fried your CPU if you took the heatsink off while it was running - was it?

Most people who think they got a bad board just got bad DIY.

If it boots and then dies quickly, then the CPU heatsink wasn't on right - either not making good contact to the CPU, or completely backwards.

And yes, today's CPUs heat up that quickly. What do you expect happens when 60 watts are working on less than a square centimeter?

thx - i'm gonna try the same setup - lol - since i posted this multiple times (SORRY) - i got some good feedback. I F'D IT UP MYSELF!!!

i had the heatsink of BACKWARDS -

just a dumb oversight - although it looked like it was on correctly - there is a slight angle in the base - this angle matches the angle on the socket/chip.

lol - i know i know ur all laffing - but maybe someone else can learn from me.

thx Peter!
