Forums Avatars

[equivoque]

Sorry for the lame question, but I belong to a bunch of forums and I still don't know how to include an avatar that is not a standard thingi provided by the forum. Please don't flame me, I know I am ignorant and that's why I'm here. Any help would be appreciated including what the acceptable pixel size is ideal.

On this forum you will need 150 posts at least before you can use a custom avatar, then you usually need to have a url location for a paticular image (you may have to upload pictures to personal webspace to do this). You then usually enter this address somehwere in your user profile and voila. Some place's such as Sysopt provide webspace for you to upload your own avatar too, meaning you can just do it straight from you machine with the minimum of fuss, though many dont

I just posted a very similar response on another forum. This is so true and there is nothing worse than seeing someone being flamed on a forum because they ask a "dumb" question.

There is nothing more arrogant than some-one that has picked other ppl's brains and gone from "dumb" to "smart" and then makes fun of ppl who are trying to learn.

It's great to strike a bright spark in a forum.

Don't ever feel ignorant on anything as the only way to learn is to ask. Only ignorant people are the sacastic ones that go 'of for goodness sake how come you don't know that' At which point I don't normally let them finish their sanctamonious statement til there lying on the ground in pain :)

Anyway back to the question. Some people go the extraordinary lengths at creating some very cool avatars. So long as you avatar is 64 bits by 64 bits then you can upload it when you pass 150 posts. I was going to work on mine to create a 9mm UZI firing and finishing off with 'asta la vista' but I haven't got the time. I simply use a 3d rendering program with 3 lights and a simple animation. I then shrunk it down to 64 x 64 to see if the effect is recognisable at these very small dimensions. When I get the time I'll do a better avatar.

I just posted a message on the post about finding other help forums. I think the very idea of flaming anyone is totally repugnant (and that's a big word! wossit mean?)
The senior and ultimate members possibly only got there because someone helped them somewher and somewhen or they'd still be usinf an abacus like me.
