Hi All
I just bought two cheapo Gigabit network cards.
I never really tested my transfer rate before, I sent one 140mb file across a x-over cable in about 8 seconds.
Does this sound :
1. way slow
2. bit slow but ok
3. about right
4. pretty fast
5. Where did you buy the Nic I want one
Thoughts appreciated
Steve

140MB = 1000Mbits
You're running over 100Mb/s, so that's good. :)

On a regular Home Network Peer to Peer using Win XP.
Sticking in Good Giga Cards using Giga Switch, it will improve (as compare to 100Mb/sec.) by 20% - 40% (that is x .25 to x .4). As oppose to the numerical Dream of 1000% (x10).
It would a different story if you use Real Server with a lot of memory and very fast HD system.

On an ethernet network due to collisions and the medium itself thruput rarely exceeds 60-70% thruput so in effect 1gig is really 600mbps-700mbps even with a beefy server!

Thanks For the feedback.
It seems as you all agree that the transfer rate is about right so that's good enough for me.
Thanks !
Steve
