I need to move several gigs of MP3's from one PC to another. What is the simplest way to accomplish this? Do I need to network them? Or can I simply connect them with a cable (serial? parallel port? ?)?

You can hook them up through serial/paralell port.. but rememer those only transfer up to 115k bps i think http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif So only about twice as fast as 56k.. that would take a loong time for a few gigs..

I would reccoment fast ethernet (100 megabit)

If you want to connect them *without* using a hub.. you need a network card on each of them.. and then connect them using a crossover cable..

Just make sure to set like network settings then you can juse use windows networking to drag and drop files..

Unless you already have NIC's (network cards) in both PCs, I'd just pull the hard drive out of the source machine and put it in the other machine to transfer the files.

Thanks for the replies...

I checked and there are 10T NIC's in both. But, what is a crossover cable?

(The NIC's both only accept RJ-45 connectors).

A regualr cat 5 cable has the 4 pairs of wires in this config on both ends:

abcd
abcd

A crossover cable has teh pairs inthis config:

abcd
dcba

This is so you can run from machine to machine without a hub.
