I bought this 19" monitor from Best Buy over 2 years ago and it finally died (Wont turn on at all). It smells like something is burnt from the inside.

Is it worth Fixing this monitor?? I really like the way this Monitor worked WHEN it worked, but I'm just wondering if I should just bite the bullet and spring for another monitor.

Is it expensive to fix these things??

Thanks

Yes you should buy a new moniter. NEver Open your moniter. The risk for electrical shock is still there even if it is unplug. At least thats what i heard.

new monitors are cheap compared to the labor cost and parts cost of fixing an old monitor...the newer monitor will have better quality, too, probably.

re: electric shock...yes you can get a healthy shock inside the crt monitor (and many other high voltage devices) because capacitors can hold a charge, sometimes for weeks or months before "leaking down". If you happen to short across one of fairly high capacitance, you can get a healthy jolt...scary but not fatal...and once it discharges, that is it.:D

sorry to hear that it only lasted 2 years. usually monitors get much better milage.
the labour and parts will definately cost you more than a new one. you can get a new 19" crt for under $150. but the price is dependant on brand, features and such.

and usually the schock will not kill you but it does hurt like a "female dog".
with the right device and if you touch the right component they might be fatal in certain cases. tvs and monitors especially.

Thanks for the replies guys/gals-

It's sad cuz this monitor was over $500.00 when I bought it about 3 years ago and my POS Viewsonic 17" monitor that I've had for at least 5 years is still going. Its too bad cuz the Viewsonic really is a POS when it comes to picture quality.
