Numeric conversions

hello, any assistance with numeric conversions would be greatly appreciated.
In particular, Decimal to binary. and binary to hexadecimal. I have found a couple of sites online but am at a loss as to how the process is achieved. perhaps a little more detail?....
This information is for a programming logic class I am taking.
