Follow the red arrows and the marked area, and you will see what I am talking about. What is it? It shows up on my desktop from time to time. My friends have noticed it on their computers too. One friend used a program to maximize whatever it is, and it appears to be invisible. What is it? Anyone know?

Hmmm Can't say ive ever seen that before... Does it change when you switch the size of the screen area? Is it there when you choose to have no backround? All I can say is, you should probably worry about oranizing that desktop of yours before worrying about something like that lol...

I've got it to, it's something on the IE 6 desktop! It's not a hyperlink or anything, just something ol Bill threw in there I guess!

That is a pretty clean desktop compared to last week. I actually did some cleaning at the end of last week. I'm running win98se, and I don't have IE6. I have IE 5.5, so it can't be about IE6.

Enable tool tips and hover the curser over it. It may tell you what it is.

I've got the same thing here, not sure what it is either and have been wondering. I think it does have something to do with kazaa, i didn't have it just now until i opened kazaa, then bang it popped up. I closed kazaa and bang it dissapeared. So i think thats what causes it. Lemme know.

I ti s definitely NOT IE6. I would suspect a trojan maybe? Then again, AOL is a trojan...and all your friends have that too don't they?

It's not MS related at all.

Has anyone seen "the net" with Sandra Bullock. I'd say it's the equivalent of the Pi symbol in that movie.

Try clicking on it to see where it will take you....

Well I theorized with my friends that Bill Gates is watching us all through it. After trying the thing with Kazaa, it showed up. So I think it is Kazaa minimized. Its just kinda weird.

Never have I ever had that box on my desktop, so I downloaded that KazaA and when I minimized KazaA, there that little box was. It was very easy to get rid of, all I had o do was either minimize KazaA, which worked "sometimes," but everytime you simply right click on the desktop, and refresh, it goes away.

Anyone useing KaZaA or Morphis will get that if the adware is enabled on the program. After it is disabled you can download faster, no annoying ads, and no little box at the top of desktop after min. but all you have to do is refresh desktop and it will get rid of the box.

How do you get rid of adware in KaZaa?

^hyd^
09-06-2001, 06:05 PM
I'm curious on disabling ad-aware for Kazaa too!! Please tell!! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif I know you can't uninstall it, it won't let you with Kazaa still installed!!

also, how much faster are downloads? I quite often get 200Kb/s and more! But hey, I'll take anything I can get!!! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

ciao!

You should really do a search on this on the boards. I remember a post like this a while back. Unless this is it restarted again.

It's a form of spyware.

I forget... What that new embedded tracking stuff on web pages called??! Ahh..! Something tags or markers. I was just reading about it. They're better than cookies because you can't refuse them.

Well, that little dot is a "marker" for this type of stuff.

Anyways, I am having an attack of old age, right now, so I can not remember their name.

But, go run msconfig and delete anything you don't recognize or can't explain. If you are getting that marker after loading Kazaa or Morpheus or whatever, uninstall them and re-install but uncheck all the spyware like:

OnTrack, Gator, etc... that they try to you make you install also.

Check your security on your browsers too.

Hope this helps.

I saw that box too, on another person's computer. At first I just thought it was a little glitch in their wallpaper. They are running 2k with IE 5.0. I think this is pretty interesting that it's elsewhere.

Its not Smart Tags. As I understand it MS only puts smart tags on webpages and you don't even have the smart tag feature on your computer unless you installed IE6. I'm with GroundZero, its spyware.

Hey I'm glad someone brought my thread back after all this time http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I know Kazaa/Morpheus has spyware, as many programs do, but I've never really heard what it does. I know it collects stuff about your computer and sends it to someone or something, but what exactly does it collect and stuff? Anyone know exactly what the spyware does?

If its just like tracking sites I visit or computer specs I don't really care that its there. If its collecting private stuff I sure as heck wanna get rid of it. Lemme know.

dood! all those questions and you didn't answer any of them!
Have you got active desktop enabled? Ck under Display and then the Web tab. If it's from that it should show up...
Also ..
side note
dump the KazaA and check Music city.. (http://www.musiccity.com/)

Well I would just like to take this opportunity to explain to everyone this deal. Kazaa and Morpheus are almost the exact same program. Literally. Kazaa is the engine and a program, Morpheus just uses the Kazaa engine. So when you say get Morpheus, drop Kazaa, you are saying drop one product and get the same thing again. As far as I know the only difference is that Morpheus allows higher bitrates in their mp3s.

There was an article about Morpheus and Kazza and it explains about how the programs are the same and how they work blah blah blah. If any of you get Maximum PC check out the September issue for the article.

I guess we have determined that Kazaa or a similiar has placed that annoying little box? I too have seen it on other PC's and wondered. Now I know...
