Hi,

Does anyone know what sort of PSU is inside a flatscreen monitor??

I was wondering whether they can run off a modified sine wave (MSW) inverter. If they have a switching PSU, then they should be OK. Sometimes, you can have trouble running transformers off MSW supplies... stereos can hum and tellys can have lines on the screen - that sort of stuff, but switch mode stuff seems OK.

Has anyone sucessfully done this???

I assume you are referring to an LCD panel, right?

If there is an external power supply, I would guess that as long as you provide the correct voltage (AC or CD, whichever applies), it shouldn't be a problem. If the supply is internal, then it is probably a solid-state (switching) supply.

The worst case is, you fry the screen.

Good Luck!

Yeah, the LCD panels.

A guy at work's got one, so I'll have a look at that.

Cheers.

Krusty,
Just an educated ha! guess, but LCD's are very low voltage and current devices, the only thing is the backlight.
Backlights are some sort of electro-fluorescent device and there is, in a laptop screen an inverter to get the voltage up to drive it.
