Just changed from DSL to cable modem (on a home network) - Downloads are 4-5 times faster but web pages seem to open slower. This is true on all 3 Win2K machines but not on the 1 Win XP machine.
Can anyone shed light on this?

probably due to popupstoppers and other web enhancements
kill all non-essential services and try

kill the server
browser
and workstation services amongst any other non-microsoft ones.
Clear your web cache too!

DSL is quicker (lower latency). Cable is faster (higher throughput).

Thanks,

Does the fix you mentioned in another post help?

"Open the Registry Editor (REGEDIT.EXE)

Rename the following registry entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
\Software
\Microsoft
\Windows
\CurrentVersion
\Explorer
\RemoteComputer
\Namespace
\{D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}

For example, you can rename it to:

DISABLED {D6277990-4C6A-11CF-8D87-00AA0060F5BF}"

OK, my sons talked me in to changing from DSL to cable in order to enhance their ability to play games online.

If DSL is quicker and therefore better for web browsing and Cable is faster and therefore better for downloads - Which one is better for game play?
Thanks

Quickness (low ping/latency) is considered to be more important in gameplay, but it really depends on the ISP. I find that Roadrunner is as good as most any DSL connection.
