This is how it goes.... I need a cheap laptop computer to use with an Autotap AT2 OBDII scanner (Realtime engine diagnostic scanner). I want a laptop because bringing an old 20lb packard bell, a 40 lbs monitor, and a keyboard all down to the garage to scan the engine would suck. Plus, I dont want all of that in the car if im driving and scanning at the same time. Anyway, I walk into a local computer store to see if they have anything. As luck would have it, there's a Samsung 386/25 sitting right there on the floor, and they want $100. Its not exactly the caddy of laptops, it has dos, a monochrome screen, floppy, and 80mb hd. I only need a 286 and dos to use the scanner so its pretty much perfect for this app. Its pretty clean too so Id guess it hasnt done much lately besides sit in a closet somewhere. The case, ps and all docs are with it too. Does this sound like a good deal? Thanks

I'd try to barter it down at least 25 bucks.

I have a couple of 486 laptops I can't find anything to do with, wish I had a scanner like yours!

BBA - How much you want for the one? I am looking for a laptop that runs RedHat 6 or 32bit DOS.

Try for $25. A side note about buying old laptops, I just wanted to throw this in. When the electronics chain Future Shop pulled out of all their US stores they had a big "Closing sale." I went in on the last day, and found the store mostly empty execpt a few broken things, and a 486/50MHz laptop. They were selling this thing for $800!!! And this sale claimed to be 50-90% off. Get this, their original price for the thing was $2995. I asked the manager about this and he simply said "I don't set the prices." They must of had it in their back store room for 4 years when it actually sold for that price. I hope someone didn't buy it. The moral of the story is never buy an old computer for a lot of money.

i'll sell my 486 66mhz(i think...) for $20, plus shipping, whatever that comes out to.probably like $10-15 or so. but the battery doesn't work, the screen is about a 6 incher, and flickers a bit. Also, no cdrom drive, just floppy and like a 400mb hard drive

I have a IBM Thinkpad 755c 486DX2-50 with a 10.4 Active Matrix Screen, 36 MG Memory and an external cdrom. The battery is completely dead and only works with the a/c adapter plugged in. A replacement battery costs $100. The clock battery also doesn't work and cost $25 to replace. This laptop runs win95 very fast with 36 meg memory. It has a 1 gig drive and there aren't any noticable dead pixels in the screen. Overall it is a great 486 laptop. I am thinking about finally getting rid of it.(I paid over $3000 in 1994)..Ouch! Anybody want it for $250?
