Hey guys!
I'm having a little problem (it's not a problem really... it just annoys the hell out of me!!!!) with my CDRom Drive. I have a Toshiba DVD/CDRW combo drive which performs very good but let's say I have The Sims cd game in the Drive and I was playing it. Now when I take out the cd and put... Motocross Madness for example, my cddrive still thinks it has The Sims cd in it!
When I go to my computer and see the icons for the floppy, HD, and CD, the cd still says The Sims! I have to right click and press Refresh so that the computer recognizes the new cd!
It's there a way to alleviate this? Do I need to enable the always painful auto insert notification for the cd to refresh itself?

Yes, I think that the only way is to turn on auto insert notification. This bug really annoys me too!
Anybody else got a solution?

If that is the only way to solve it, this SUCKS!!!!! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif
Really, if anyone knows how to get windows to refresh the drives without actually starting a program, keep us posted.!!!!!

I believe you do have ONE option. Use TweakUI to turn off CD Autoplay, but AutoInsertNotification remains enabled. This option can cause problems with CD burning software however...

You can right click and select eject in explorer on the offending drive, then push the tray back in. That clears it up for me when it happens.

One way is to press F5 in the explorer view to refresh. There is a registry tweak which forces Windows to refresh the explorer view every 30 seconds or whatever automatically. I will try and dig that up and post it. Meanwhile, do the F5

Auto-insert is annoying. There's a reg hack here (http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/628/) -- the "UpdateMode" one.
However, there's conflicting info on this, and I'm not convinced it really does anything. For instance, tho the various sites say setting this to 0 makes it autorefresh, two diagnostic progs of mine say Autorefresh is disabled when it's set to zero. Try 0 or 1 to test it. It doesn't help w/the CDRom refreshing on my W95 box w/either setting.
If anyone has any speculations/experience on this, I'd like to know.

Used the TweakUI option an it worked perfectly!
BFlurie, haven't tried your suggestion! But I'll sure try it.!
