Ok, Ive been putting off installing SP1 for my XP PRO install for a while because my stylexp didn't support SP1. So anyway I get KOTOR and it has a water error thingy so I go to update to the Catalyst 4.1's but they need SP1. So I finnaly get StyleXP 2.0 and the other progs updated so they work with SP1, and I go to install SP1 but low and behold IT WONT INSTALL!! I have tried both from the windows update site, and a cd-rom from MS. The one from MS goes to the point where it says "backing up files" and under details says "Creating restore points". I'm sick and tired and have lookd at MS's site till my eyes bleed trying to find out how to fix it. Anyone know the issue?

Do you have a pirated copy of XP?

So what happens? Does it freeze, drop away or give you an error? If there's an error, what is it? Have you looked in Event Viewer?
Are you logged on as Administrator?
Have you tried Safe Mode?

I haven't tried safe mode. I'll do that right now.
Theres no error and everything else works fine but the updater just sits there doing nothing. I left it for an hour and it never moved an inch after it went to "creating restore point"
I also haven't looked at event viewer. What is that and how do I look at it?

Event Viewer is in Administrative Tools.

ok you were right about running it in safe mode. Must have been some prog not letting it. Maybe NIS or something. Anyway thanks.
So hey what does the event viewer do for you? Whats its purpose?
