I just got a new hard drive cause the other crapped out, and i have it formated and got 2k on it, and all my drivers on.

Now things have gone screwy, first thing that went wierd is that now anytime i do anything with the hard drive, everything lags up, like if i copy a big file from a cd to it, or just from one part of the hard drive to the other, or if i donwload stuff. It's really annoying to not be able to download or extract stuff and so other things at the same time cause it gets to slow.

Another thing now, is that things stop working suddenly, i found that out to be some program listed in the processes part of task manager, its called devldr32exe, and it comes up constanly, everytime i open something new, and when i end it, it just comes right back as soon as i open a new file, or even a new window, if i end it, eveything starts working again, until it comes back up. Like if i open winamp, devldr32exe starts into the task manager, and winamp will not open, then if i close devldr32exe then winamp will contimue to load.

I dont know what to do about the hard drive, its a quantum fireball 30gb 7200rpm,
the devldr32exe problem i could fix if i knoew what it was or how to get rid of it but i cant,

so if u can understand my rushed jibberish and know what i can do please help cause iam gonna be getting @home soon and want to have my computer working by then. thanks a bunch!!!

I run win2k here and found no occurance of the file devldr32.exe that you mention.

Why don't you do a search for it, and when found, copy it off to a floppy or rename it to something else. If you copy it, delete it, then see if you system run ok.

You didn't list your specs, so I my guess could be potentially helpful, but I did a search for devldr32.exe on Copernic (to me, an invaluable piece of software BTW) and all of the results that turned up concerned the install of Liveware 3.0, the Soundblaster updated sound card drivers. Here's a link to the only result on their knowledge base.

Good luck.

I have a file running in the background called devldr16.exe, which is for SoundBlaster DOS emulation. I would guess devldr32exe may be serve related function for Win2K. Search the Creative site for information.

DOS drivers for soundcards can slowdown your system. If you don't play DOS games, uninstall the driver, or disable the Soundblaster (DOS) emulation for your system.
You could also go into your config files an unload the DOS drivers there.

You have Win2K, so does Win2K still have autoexec.bat, config.sys or system (control panel)??

Oh well, that's generally what you would do.

Yeah, it did have to do with sound blaster, last time i didnt have this problem, but this time i used different drivers, so i never even thought of it being sound blaster drivers, but i found it and deleted it and now thats cleared up.

As for the hard drive, i know i have the right cable, but i dont know if its on cable select, or if its udma, i can set cable select but dont know for sure bout udma, i'll look for thoise things thiough.

Thanks for all the help! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I don't know how I completely missed the first question about the hard drive. Booya's got a point. However,I had the same problem with drives crapping out during large file transfers or extended periods of CD access. I had a flag for Mass Storage Controller and couldn't find the drivers for it anywhere on the Windows CD or any reference to such an error on the net. It turned out that the drivers were on an unlabeled CD that came with the motherboard. Sometimes, I just tear open the box like it's Christmas and don't pay attention to the directions or the accompanying software. After installing that, everything was gravy.

Not only does he have a point, but he has the answer!

I went to their site to read about it, and not only does it need to be on cable select, it also has to be plugged into the middle connector, with the slave hard drive on the end. So booya you were right on 2 out of 3, cause i do have an ata100 cable, it just wasnt set right.

Thanks to everyone for their help! everything has now been solved http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
