Our company intranet is dying on the vine due to lack of use. :/

Any reading or resources out there to get ideas, features and suggestions on sprucing up intranet content and draw more page hits?

Thanks!

Well what we did was make each dept responsable for fresh content atleast every 2 weeks for their sections. Got everyone visiting the intranet much more.

I would suggest "quizes", "guess who this is", Employee bio's (for those that care to share), "find the hidden object" The last one we had alot of fun with as HR would usually have us put it in their online policy manual....got alot more people checking it out http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

We have a corporate intranet and then we have the individual locations' intranet sites. I created and maintain our local intranet site here... with about 300 employees locally. Honestly, it's extremely difficult to get any page hits unless you update it very often... and even then, there's no guarantee of visitors. My logs show about 4-5 hits a day, which is pathetic, but most people are quite busy here throughout the day anyway.

Before I took over and created the new design for it (demo here) (http://www.rh71.com/melweb/) , my colleagues had older versions of the site which incorporated a message board. That got very little attention... they also put up something called "scribe a meeting"... where you can type up meeting minutes as you go, as long as you have a laptop or desktop connected on the LAN. That didn't pick up in popularity either.

Currently my manager is putting together a committee to decide on what should go up on the site, but that doesn't look too promising either. Why would they care about it if we're not getting many visitors in the first place? Right now, I just put up whatever I think is relevant. Feedback (thru the site) is extremely rare as well.

Fact is, if there's no initial interest in an intranet site at your location, there never will be... and we're all technically savvy people around here. That's what makes it even more sad.

Well Toadmeister, you can always have them hire me to go in every 2 weeks and stir it up! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/biggrin.gif
I could generate interest and content.

That's just it, Mike. It's almost a full-time position to keep current on content, and everyone else has their own responsibilities. Same in my case also. And updating/creating fresh content isn't exactly grounds for a promotion, especially from left-brainers who don't understand the concepts and time involved anyways. It's almost like "struggling artists or musicians". http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
