This is NOT something to do on a whim. The potential for disaster is huge!

However, fun is fun. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Go to Wim's (http://www.wimsbios.com/) , click on FAQ, and check out item #25.

Make sure you save a copy of your current BIOS image (.bin) file first.

Good Luck !!!

An interesting coincidence.

I was working on an old Compaq Presario 5526 (Pentium 90) for a customer just yesterday. It didn't have anything unusual as far as a start up screen was concerned, your usual Windows 95 one.

I had to download a service pack to get some drivers I needed and noticed one of the files was logo.sys which was placed in the root of the C drive i.e. c:\logo.sys.

After installing the service pack and re-booting, I noticed that the usual Windows 95 (mostly light blue) screen now said "Provided by Compaq" in red letters in the upper left corner.

I've come across this question before and discovered the boot up screen is basically just a .bmp file (bit map) that has to meet certain criteria regarding file size, etc. But nothing too complex.

It has nothing to do with the BIOS, as I understand it, and you really are better off staying away from fooling with the BIOS unless you have a problem that absolutely requires a BIOS upgrade to fix it.

The info I found was several years ago and I believe it was mentioned in an article at PCWorld or PC Magazines's website.

I founda a utility a while back that would do this to AMI bios's. I am actually looking for one that would remove the Compaq logo on one of my comps. Hey I found 1 site with a utility to do that. Some BIOS actually support this feature and I recommend doing a search for "Logo Genie" and see if your motherboard is supported.

What he is talking about does have to do with the BIOS. Yes you can change the Windows splash screen but most companys have their logo show up when you boot up the machine instead of showing it go through the memory test and search for connected drives. I've seen Dell, NEC, Compaq, Hewlett Packard, and Gateway all do this. Sometime you'll see what were talking about. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

If you're just trying to change the splash screen then try here:

Read the post! Trying to change the logo on startup, before the splash screen. And not the engergy star compliant logo. Go to Staples and reboot an HP machine. If you see a big logo that says HP, thats the thing hes tring to change.

What you are looking for is a utility to change the EPA logo in the bios post screen. The proggy is called CBROM.exe. Have a look at Binary's BIOS Mods (http://www.biosmods.com/index.php) . There is a how-to in the Guides section. It is a great source for modded Abit and Iwill BIOS's with different EPA logos. There is also a large selection of downloadable custom logos to use in your own BIOS. I have a AMD Athlon Overclocked logo on my BIOS post screen. It's very cool!

Nope. I don't want to change the EPA logo!!!!
I just want to be able to put a logo so that when the computer starts, it gets shown! (instead of the ram running and the detection of hard drives!!!).!

Geeze! You guys must be idiots (sorry but I explained it a few times) not to understand what we're talking about. Come one if you ever seen any Compaq, HP, NEC, or Gateway machine bootup they have a logo instead of showing the BIOS testing the RAM and looking for HDD's. Go to the computer store and restart one of the machines. You WILL see what we're talking about.

Did you ever get that logo to show up?

Still haven't found a way!
At least I'll try to change the EPA logo!

Sorry to hear that. I'll keep looking around and see if there's anything that might help. What kind of BIOS do you have anyway?

I think it is an American Megatrends (AMI) BIOS!

So I guess I'm out of luck with the EPA logo too!
