I had a GeForce 3 ti 200 agp card in one of my computers. It is made by dell and I decided to take the video card out and put it in another computer. I put a S3 Trio 32/64 pci card in it (old i know) and now when you start the computer it locks up! The only way it wount is if you go through safe mode. It will work untill I enable the driver so I can have a better color quality than 6 bit! I tried the detonator destroyer RIP but the driver was forceware and detonator wouldnt work! Any suggestions so I can use the Dell computer again?!?

THANK SO MUCH!!!

Windows version?

You may have to reinstall Windows... :(

It is Windows XP Home...When I first put the card in, it would lock up in the logon menu. I put the card in the first PCI slot and now you can logon but when you install the drivers it locks up after restart. Why would I have to reinstall the OS? Can I just put the old card back in and it will work? What causes this?

Thanks again!

Press F8 as you see the WinXP screen start to appear and select "Enable VGA Mode". Go in there and remove all traces of all video drivers. Install the new ones again and reboot normally.

You may want to take the time to back up your stuff. You always have System Restore too.

I went into the Enable VGA Mode and all the settings work. I can't find any traces of drivers. Where should I look? None in the Add and Remove Programs list. SHould I delete out of the device manger too? Everything works fine in safe mode and vga mode but when I boot normalll, it locks up in the middle of logging in. When it says "loading settings for user" or whatever it says.

Update: I deleted driver from device manager also and it still locks up when trying to logon normally.

What should I do?

Had that happen last week with the same brand name and age card.

Would be fine in safe mode, windows would find it, install drivers and prompt for a reboot. After that windows would refuse to start. Some error, forget what it was.

Replaced with another video card and no more trouble.

Sounds like you have an old card thats bad. Not much to replace one of those.

look here, 2 for $3 (http://www.computersurplusoutlet.com/showproduct.asp?c=20&s=44)

well thanks for the help. I ended up just putting the cards back where they were and everything is fine again. I don't know if the Dell mobo couldn't read that old of a card or what but owell. I will be purchasing a new card to replace the old 1mb S3 Trio 34/64 in my XP 2400+ system soon. I am going to wait untill after the Home Electronics trade show in Vegas that films end of January or beginning of Feburary. All the old product prices plung so I go scoop up the best of the old and save my $!

Thanks again!:t :D
