I've noticed an awful lot of multiple posting of late, but I've also noticed that it seems to be mostly from relatively new members.

If you've recently had a double, triple, (or more) post and you are CERTAIN it's was not because you 1)forgot whether or not you already hit the SUBMIT button, or 2)you became impatient and clicked SUBMIT twice, then post a message here.

Hey, I had one recently but it was because my g/f's emachine froze. So I hit it twice to make sure I got it in. After a minute, it unfroze (it was hitting the harddrive the entire time). It wasn't operator error, it was machine, honest...

Emc2, yours doesn't count... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Cody, you definitely didn't hit "Submit" twice... right?

I am guilty! I hit the wrong button.
I wasn't finished and noticed it posted.
Help me with my BSOD!

I did a couple recently, but here's why:
I've noticed lately that my replies dont show up on the newly created page after I press the submit button. I thought it did'nt take so I went back and hit submit again.Usually the post topic will then move to the top of the list as the most recent post in that particular forum.Sometimes it doesnt.
Well,I think it may have to do with the fact that I have been disabling Java and Javascript in my browser because of pop-up ad's at another site I frequent. When I leave that site, I sometimes forget to turn the Java stuff back on.I know if you dont have Java running here at sysopt you have to type your username and password in manually when you want to post a reply.
So,it's not my fault!-It's Java's.
At least that's my excuse/theory http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif.

Sorry Fingers, I couldn't resist. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I have noticed some of my posts getting doubled up but think it is an IE error because it is not limited to this forum.

I think I'd have to blame mine on lack of concentration and being a newby to this... I had windows tiled across my screen and was posting to two different ones and reading a couple of others at the same time (human "multitasking" http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif)... I was reading through one msg to check it and then hit TAB TAB SPACE (Submit, via kbd) only to realise that I'd just submitted the other window, which had been acive... DOH! In a flurry of wild panic I grabbed the mouse and hit the back button, went on to correct the message and then then submited it properly, only to find that the partially completed msg had also been submited.... I made some attempt to clean up after myself (put the main msg in the first post and then cleared out the content of the second post, but the evidence was still there http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif.... branded an incompetent loser, emotionally scarred http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

Took me about 2 hours of kicking some serious @$$ on Half-Life to cheer me up http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

HOPE I don;t do that again (note SPECIAL care taken when submitting this one!)... but not so much that I didn't make the usual typo's :p

laters!

Lynchmob -- I had that problem. The thing is with your ISP. They are not caching their pages so you can't see your replies even if you press the refresh button on your browser!

About double posts and such, I have seen alot of people posting the same topic on different forums like for example:

General Tech: Topic: Which mobo???
Motherboards: Topic: Which mobo???

etc...!

P.S. That las example was invented by me! If there is any similarity to the real world.... ahh.... well you know.. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Dudes Dudes Dudes. Dont you have anything better to do than discuss multiple postings?

HAHAHA ... real funny Dave.. J/K http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

I never really thought there was a posting problem... I was just hoping to call attention to the issue, so that people would be more careful. Double posts within topic are something that seem to be inevitable (although in my nearly 1700 posts I can say that I've only done it twice, once was my fault, the other one I can't explain)

Yesterday, though, there were 6 double posted topics within the same forums, ...that's quite unusual, and is what prompted my question.

Here's a tip to help avoid double posting.

After clicking "SUBMIT", if you feel that your browser has stalled, highlight your text and save it to the Windows clipboard, then hit "BACK", then "REFRESH" (F5). Most of the time, you will find your message has already been posted. On the rare occasion where your message didn't get submitted, go back to the "Reply" page and paste it into the reply window from the clipboard and try again. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Fingers, no I did not hit submit twice.

I had a topic going, and on every post after page 4, everyone's posts were double.

I'm sure that the server has an occasion "hiccup" that might result in odd behavior. Maybe I'm just jealous because I'm earning my posts the "old fashion way... one message at a time" ... LOL http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Hey Fingers --

That's still the case, I've looked at all my double posts and they all have the same number of posts! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/redface.gif

So, for me, it doesn't matter if I double post, I only get credit for the first one! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Lots of double posting tonight! I have noticed that this website "slows down" at times which could account for some of the double posts. Several times tonight I would select something and my nothing would happen. Just a Web Site Found, Waiting For Reply message. I can open a new window and go to another web site and it loads fine.

Once when I double posted, it was because of the above. I was posting a reply to a thread and when I hit the submit reply button nothing happened. I was distracted at the time and thought I had missed the submit reply button, so, I hit it again. OOPS, doublepost.

Mike
