Okay, i usually dont start something as open ended as this and I do know how to use google. I just want a wee bit of input and opinions.

I have 10 various windows rigs in the house ( 95b, 98, ME, W2K) and a linux one thrown in and they all are networked already and can see each other so I have a little knowledge but curious about the Novell thing.

Is it recommended that I try to gain some knowledge in this area? Is it still widely used?

Im part owner of a computer recycling company and responsible for refurbishing all the rigs that are possible to do so with. A lot of them, especially from the school systems, have Novell set up on them.

Is this a preferred, better way to network or are the school systems just behind times?

Have always thought it impressive they could run all those computer they have with no HD's. That must be a Novell thing.

One thing ive learned with teachers and school system personnel is that they generally arent rocket scientists so if they set it up regularly is must not be too hard.

Sorry such strange questions but im just trying to decide if I should persue some knowledge in this area or if its just defunct technology.

Thanks all. :t

Yo, yo Cross.........wus' up?

I have a Novell CNA 5.0 Administrator certification and I was never able to use it officially in almost 3 years now.

Novell was not easy for me to pick up while in school. I had the second lowest mid term grade in the class after 3 weeks out of the 6 week course but then I bought 2 CNE books and read part of both and I was able to pass my cert the day of the final exam.

We use Novell at work (Mack Trucks Inc.) but they are migrating from Novell later this year to Microsoft Active Directory (which is just a slightly different flavor of Novell).

The bottom line is: A little knowledge never hurts, but it may not pay off as good as you would like it to.

Hey Sterl. :t Its about CD time. :D LMK Building new rig, looking for o/s ideas.

Thats the kind of information I was fishing for, thanks. Seemed like a dead end road but nothing ventured nothing gained.

Not wanting it to pay off, I think my future is in the recycling business, picking up very well now. Just was wondering if it was practical to do some research. Wont be in such a big hurry now.

Still trying to decide on the A+ thing as well. Got all the books and cd's and such and know the technology job market is bad but i'm going to apply it to my little start up company so not sure yes or no.

Another thread perhaps. :D
