i need to copy a video file from my harddrive to a cd by using my cd writer, but the file is 711MB & i would like to shortened or edit the file to make bring it down to less than or exactly 700MB. Is there any utility that would cut some file off? I would like to take some file off in the beginning & at the end of the video. any suggestion is greatly appreciated

Im pretty sure there is a program that can compress your video file into a smaller one. You won't even have to cut anything off from the video. Not sure where to get it, could try searching HERE (http://www.download.com.) Good Luck...

I've been usnug Adobe Premiere 6.0 to edit my videos. Then I use XingMPEG Encoder to change from AVI to mpeg. It often takes a 100meg avi to 5meg mpeg.

Yeah try to compress the file.!
The Divx compression is pretty good I hear! And sometimes even complete movies can occupy just one cd!

I noticed somebody mentioned divx conversion but didn't mention where to learn some things about it.

Excellent site with links to recommended software also. Of course, if you choose to use the Divx format, you can't watch it without the associated codecs installed and there are several. If you want to make something that plays in a DVD player ...

There's a million other sites but I've always found the solution on these two.

I tried to burn it by using adaptec 5.0 with my hp 8X burner, it found that 711 is too much to burn from a 700mb cd, so it wont let me. And people! thanks for the inputs, let me try the divx
If 711mb is the real size of the file (take properties, and the first number there, not the file size on disk which could be something like 740mb etc) it won't fit on 700mb cdr. You could edit something out of it with virtualdub.

When using virtuadub you could recompress it to a file that will fit on a cd but u run a risk of some to lots of quality loss if u don't do it properly, but i know there is a way to cut a part of a video file off using virtuadub, just can't think of how at this moment.
