I've been having a problem trying to run Flight Simulator 2004 on my system as it keeps locking up and crashing and under System/Advanced/Settings I was toggling back and forth between 'Let Windows decide what is best for my computer' and 'Adjust for best performance'.

Now all of a sudden my desktop display has shrunk about 3/8 of an inch from the sides of my monitor. It is like I had a zoom in and zoom out button and I have shrunk the display, because everything is a tad smaller, fonts, icons, etc.

I tried system restore and restored back to last Tuesday feeling that this would correct the display problem but no luck. I'm running XP professional on a Samsung Syncmaster 763 MB monitor. Any suggestions?

Most likely your refresh rate has changed.

Go to your Display properties, Settings Tab, and Click Advanced.

In Advanced, go to the adapter tab and click the list all modes button. Try a few of the refresh rate, size, and color depth settings until it looks like you want.

If your screen becomes garbled jsut don't do anything. Windows will reset the setting and you will be able to see things again. Just try a different setting.

I tried what you suggested with no luck. I think I'm describing my problem correctly, it's like my display has shrunk and I now have a black 3/8 inch border on all 4 sides. I'd love to be able to take the mouse pointer and go to the 4 corners and expand it back to normal size.

Lots of views but doesn't anyone have a suggestion.....it's driving me crazy! It's got to be something simple. I've got a monitor that measures 16" corner to corner and now I have a display that measues 15". As I mentioned with the problems I was having with FS2004 crashing I was actually on Microsofts website trying to reslove the problem and they were the ones that told me to click on performance under System/Advanced/Settings and then click on Performance. It was after I toggled back and forth from Performance to Let Windows choose what's best a couple of times that my display shrunk?

I managed to figure it out by myself. Right click on the desktop and then left click on Graphics Options/Graphics properties/Devices/Monitor Settings and then adjust the vertical and horizontal size.

Stay with me as I'm not as smart as I thought I was. On rebooting the computer my shrunken display reappeared?

For all you computer gurus out there I went to Samsung's website and managed to download their manual for their Syncmaster 763MB monitor.

I suppose I should have done this in the first place but considering that I hadn't touched any of the adjustment controls on the actual monitor itself I considered it an opps and applications problem.

I adjusted the screen size as per the manual and que milagro the screen size is back to normal and on re-boot remains as sized.

For neophytes such as myself this was a major problem although obviously not considered important enough for comments or consideration. Please remember as I have stressed in the past we crawled a long time before we took that first step.

Just for your information next time.

Your question being posted in this partuicular part of the forum will not attract as much interest or feedback as it would elsewhere. In the year ive been here ive noticed that is not near as much traffic in Apps and operating systems as there is in, say, general tech or tech support. Realize you werent sure of problem and thought it was the game. Just helping clear up the lack of help

I hope i speak for all when i say we cant wait to help with problems and will jump at the chance.

I browse this forum at least 3 times a day and this is one subsection i do frequent and i can honestly say this is the first time ive even seen your question.

If i had i wouldnt have guessed something as simple as that though.

Glad you figured it out.

And from the sounds of it you'll be crawling for a long time to come.

Hi Johnny Fist,

If all members have your attitude I'm cancelling my forum membership.

I'm glad you're not my teacher. I was a flight instructor for years and there was never such thing as a stupid question.

When you think you know it all it's time to quit!
