He has to give Mafia a good review or his knee caps will be broken. Just look where his location is. :p

Seriously, Mafia is a nice game. Try the demo just to get a feel for it: http://www.3dgamers.com/dl/games/mafia/mafia-demo-us.zip.html :t

Here's an offer you can't refuse. . .Get the game.

Seriously though, great game and lots of fun in the "alternate" play modes too. The part that pissed me off in the game was the part where you have to win the race in the race car. . .I've never been much for driving games so that part took me FOREVER to beat. Actually walked away from the game for almost a week it pissed me off so bad but finally I beat it and after that I was stuck to my computer again.

i've writen so much on this game...I'm not going to into length about my love and addiction for it.....

In my best top 2 of all time.....I have alot of good games and many up to date....still incredible

I have been playing it again for only the second time and couldn't put it down ( played only for a few hours at a time ) since.
The last scene is hard to get through with only one life box

can you believe all the very realistic old cars you get to drive?? amazing! I had to discard a car and replace it witha new one,as I quickly ran out of room onmy list..and there are more on the fan sites to load also....

They are making Mafia 2 now, and no word on its release , but not anytime soon

The ONLY game i paid the full $50.00 for when it vame out and it was worth every penny ( back then ) $ 10.00 at Walmart..you've got to be kidding? )

The race is a blast and very frustrating...I felt and had the same experience as you ( ahurtt ) ,and was cussing up a storm big time, but got through it and like you was so relieved, I then started playing it for days
when i get dome with it again ,I will put it away and play it again sometime before summer gets here...
for those that want to know..the game engine works very smoothly, and couldn't fine two faults with it..scenes played again or in a different way are never the same
Max Payne is the only other game i found to be on an equal par with this...

I'd agree, one of the best titles I've beaten in the last few years. Amazing graphics, especially the facial renditions; great sound effects and soundtrack; excellent storyline. I beat it well over a year ago and it might just be time to pull it out again for a second round. I remember the car race being the most challenging level, but I also remember beating it within two hours. I enjoyed GTA III a lot (not Vice City), and this game was much better than that in my opinion. You don't find a lot of games out there taking on the 1930's era, so that made it unique and engaging. Also, the game played like a movie in the truest sense of the word. Two thumbs up and a "AAA" rating. . .

jonwes,....don't want to beat a dead horse but, yes by all means pull it out and shake off the dust.....It IS worth playing again as I am doing do now ( off and on..esp...late at night )

I re-installed my windows and since i have a fantastic graphics card...the visuals are just simply the best out there....the detail ,which I take a critical view at are extrodinary....I was looking at the cars again and all the surroundings, and they did the best job of anybody ever at this..detail!

When you get to the scene or part when they take a ride ( in the rain ) to the country to pick up the Liquor shipments, stop and be amazed at the attention to detail in this....awesome!

I beat the car race the first time out this time as it seemed to work better now that my system is bug free...

mafia 2 is coming out sometime... ( not for awhile ) and i just can't wait..its driving me crazy!

how much like vice city is it

Rabbitrunner51

No comparison...similar type vehicle ( generally ) but you work for the head Boss of this mafia enterprise, and the graphics ( which are just spectacular, which i could go on and on about the detail of) and the characters or mafia associates are very well drawnup and detailed....

GTA Vice City is a good game, but more cartoonish....and uses speed and haste as its main vehicle for moving the story along...it just gets tiring and the same to me,,,,,(not an attitude of..I can't wait to play again)

It is worth far more than VC in value and replayability.....

Unless you don't care for or want to be in that era..( the 1930's ) and drive most ALL the cars for that era..then maybe this is a reason for doubt...The music is jazz from that era too,,,,and to me it just cracks me up,because it fits so well and is amusing

very smooth game engine,....and everything else

Buy the darn thing....you will not be disappointed ,that is unless you have no taste at all or expect a Halo type game

I think I might just take that advice and play through it again. Btw, I'd agree that there's no comparison between Vice City and Mafia. A buddy of mine and I bought the dual pack GTA for the Xbox a while back and thoroughly enjoyed GTA III, but felt shorted on Vice City. Although there were quite a few extras to it, the narrow streets and terrible aiming caused us both to put ours up on eBay well before finishing the game. Also, with all of the submissions, you never really feel like you're completing any of the GTA games 100% unless you have hundreds of hours to go around finding everything. Mafia beats it out on every level - ambience, graphics, sound, plot/storyline, character rendering, etc. . .

jon..I was amused at the level (one of the last three ) where they chase the head guy ( i can't remember his name ) from the movie theatre out to the airport and It changed a little and didn't play out the same when chasing him as after going a longer distance following him...i kept getting a..." he got away message ....."
Kept replaying it over at this stage ( somewher in the country chase scene ) and guess what.....instead of turning into the airport which I thought was the final scenes ( you remember shooting the plane he was taking off in? )
Finally i got past that point of catching up to him a bit further and...wham bang.....he gets cornered on a bridge with half of it gone and nowhere to go.....
Anyway, i will not spoil it as trhis is one more reason it is so great...play it again or in a different way and the scenarios change...at least on this level and i have seen others as well.

i know i keep repeating this but, while you play it over again, take alot of notice anew at the amazing detail...which there are no faults i see whatsoever.....everything is detailed right down to the far off scenery....amazing
also, as i went along I noticed other cars i haven't noticed before and you can steal any of them and it will be added to your list..which my require you to throw one away....at their main site there are added cars also and addon Mods.....

Get the game. Everyone has hit on the good points already. Bad points, okay so it's a lonnnnngggggggggggg game but the storyline and gamplay are fantastic. Graphics A1 in my book. Very attentive to detail. Buy it buy it by it!!!:D

Heres a tip for those of you who find the driving challenging: You can use a joystick to control all vehicles. Push forward to go, pull back to brake. Steering is much more progressive than using the arrow keys. And you can map the horn to one of the triggers! Great fun to go terrorizing pedestrians! :D

Also, during the race you usually can easily get into second place; it's getting first place that can be frustrating. Try to get close behind the lead car on a curve, then "accidently" bump him off the track!

Mafia 2 is in the making...and i don't expect it out anytime real soon.but i will check again on the main site ( there are others also ) for the latest update...

In this playing version currently i beat the race the first time out..and i didn't even start in first place..... its important to remember that they give you an edge and the proper breaks if you keep your eyes open.....As long as you stay close and don't let up a whole lot..you will eventually catch up...and it is made that when you are ahead ( in first ) as long as you go full bore mostly..the lead widens to a point of they never catch up..and then its just a matter of hanging on..sometimes for three laps or whatever..... i left them in the dust.....
A very cool little race..simple but very entertaining....

I finally re-installed Mafia and I'm currently at level 7. I'm surprised how easy the "race" was this time around. I pulled into first place on the first lap and actually managed to lap another car by the fourth lap - beat it on my first attempt! I can't describe how good this game looks on my new Viewsonic 21" G810 and ATI Radeon 9800 Pro. I set Vertical Sync to on and I'm running 4X AA and 16X AF. The details are top notch and little effects like the sun setting when you're walking the bartender's daughter home are stunning. I'm thoroughly enjoying it the second time around. . .

For the race, go full speed except in the turns, slow to about 60 to 80 depending on the turn (except the last banked turn where you can run it at full). Long as you do that and don't crash I've came in about 40 seconds ahead of whoever came in 2nd place.

Great game, just no replayablity to me.
