I have a freind that was writing a paper for school using Word. System crashed on him. He restarted and went back to the file and it has only a couple sentenses, but the file was several pages big. Now the file shows its a couple hundred kb, but there are only a couple sentenses there.
Anyway to get in it and undo the file, retreive the lost data??
Thanks

Has he tried opening it in wordpad?
Wont get all the formatting but will get the typing back. Should anyway.
Can then save it as a text file, reopen it with word and redue the formatting.
There might be a version of it floating around with the same name but a .bak extension. Windows probably hides those by default. How much is in that depends on how often word is set to save but should be some in there as well

If it wasn't saved during the use of word could be lost in ram which would disappear once ram emptied unless you got some file check files on the system after starting up you may be able to retrieve some more of it by opening in notepad or wordpad or try this tool to retrieve from a file check http://www.ericphelps.com/uncheck/

Thanks for the info...
I'll pass this on to him. I think we are S.O.L. here.
Thanks:t

Word saves at regular intervals w/o you having to tell it to ( used to anyway ).
Not sure what the default time is, I bumped mine up to every 2 minutes years ago. Lost a lot of stuff in little time before that.
Might want to tell him to look for the option to change the time intervals for automatic save or whatever its called, bump it up a notce to minimize the chances of it happening again.
