I am going to buy a new soundcard. What are the differences with cpu utilization between a basic soundcard(sb pci 16) and a sound card like sounblaster live 5.1? Does the "5.1" soundcard with more features put a strain on a cpu or does it use the cpu more efficiently?

that should give you a little more info. As far as which card puts more of a strain on your system, I haven't experimented with any other cards than the basic Sound Blaster live card.
