i have doubts on what this turbo switch do, I know when you press it the numbers on your cpu i.e. 120, goes down to 60, does this speeds up the cpu I know turbo switch are for old computers (486's) or pentium 133 (i guess) but I decided removing it cause it's doing nothing on my old cpu

The turbo switch was on old 386DX and 486 to allow users to lower the speed so they can run older programs and games that was written for 286 and 386.
Regards...
Before the Pentium class computers, the turbo switch used to speed things up. But with a Pentium class chip, not turning on the turbo switch slows the chip down.

As I remember the DX2 & DX4 series had turbo switches as well to make them go either at the default 33 Mhz or the faster speed. (Up to 120, I think...)

what do you mean "turning off the turbo switch will slow the pentium 200 MMX processor?" so I need to return back the turbo switch?
Yes, TURBO should be on to use the processor at its original speed. Turning it off will run the processor at a fraction of its original speed...

Look at your motherboard and find the turbo pins.
If I were you I would disconnect the button from the motherboard and jumper the pins (there's no reason not to always be in turbo mode - it was designed to change the clock speed of the system to allow for programs to run at different speeds i.e. older program runs too fast).
If the motherboard is new enough there won't be turbo pins and your 'button' may not be connected to anything!

..heh
I remember running Wing Commander II in turbo mode on a 486DX40 AMD just because it was funny to watch and hear the into. Also out flying the Kilrathi was tough at that speed! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
