I guess you don't have many options in your country. Is that US Dollars? The 5600 is a lot better than the 5200, there's really no contest. All I can say is pay the extra if you really want the superior of the two. Bigjakkstaffa 01-16-2004, 06:00 AM The FX5600 is by far the better of the two (the FX5200 is a budget card at best, heck the ti4200 will outastrip it in nearly all applications), however the FX series as a whole loose out to their Ati counterparts in terms of both performance and quality. If i were you i woudl look at the Radeon 9600XT or if you MUST go Nvidia (as many around here seem to have to do) give the FX5700 a look, think of it as the card the FX5600 should have been --Jakk:t zybch 01-16-2004, 11:22 PM The Radeon 9600XTs ROCK! Cheap, fast, not nVidia :) and easy to overclock. Forget playing Half-Life 2 with any nVidia card (5700 and below). Thats unless you like slideshows. grimfandango 01-16-2004, 11:46 PM yea right 9800 xt for $$430+++ I own a 5600 non ultra. .its ok it ant that bad... But there are better cards out there like the Ati 9600. or fx 5900. No 5600 is not worth 135$$ more. :t zybch 01-17-2004, 04:04 AM The 9800XTs are still pricey, however the 9600XT cards give between 2/3 and 3/4 the performance for less than 1/2 the price. Asus have a nice one with VIVO, heaps of software, a HL2 voucher and a cool heatsink. http://usa.asus.com/products/vga/r9600xt/overview.htm I've got one and its great. BigBirdZ28 01-17-2004, 07:48 AM thanks guys, i have always liked ATi over nVidia. I selected the nV because of advantages just to do with the drivers (unified drivers, optimised, less bugs, better options like digital vibrance etc...). having said that, if I can get a 9600 for cheaper than a 5600, I would pounce on it. I just dont want to pay an extra $135 for noticable, but not significantly better performance. yep the price was in USD. Which of the ATi cards out perform the nVs in the 5200-5600 Price range ? zybch 01-17-2004, 08:10 AM Pretty much any of them, even a 6 year old rage 128 :) The 9200 is roughly equal to the FX 5200, but as soon as you get into DX9 stuff the nVidia card will really start to struggle. The same can be said for all nVidia cards compared to their ATI equivalents. Forget about the 9200/5200 - they just don't have much grunt although the 9200Pro might be an okay choice if you are on a really tight budget. You might be able to grab hold of a 9600 (plain or Pro version). The prices on these cards should hopefully be driven down a bit since the release of the XT series. You will be able to overclock a 9600/Pro a bit. Check out eBay if you don't mind second hand parts, A lot of retailers sell new cards there at very good prices. SysOpt.com
