After installing my motherboard and CPU, I reinstalled Windows. After a few hours, I noticed that Windows is recognizing my CPU to be 2000+ instead of 2600+. My FSB Frequency is 133, is that the problem?
Motherboard: 400MHz FSB
RAM: 400MHz (PC3200)
CPU: 333MHz FSB

Yes, set it to 166. Good luck! :D

Darn, I'll have to reformat... again. Or is it possible to set it to 166 without having to reformat? I did it earlier and Windows gave me an UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME error.

Fusion, new to building comps eh? No formatting is needed. Look in your manual. There may be a switch on the motherboard that needs to be set on 166 rather than 133. It may be possible to change it in the BIOS too.
You know how to update a BIOS?
What motherboard are you using?

The option is in the BIOS. The reason for me thinking I'd have to reformat is because when I changed to FSB earlier today, Windows gave me an UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME error. Everything seems to be running great, except I think it's overheating after a certain period of time. I have a Dr. Thermal heatsink/fan, and a case fan, but my normal temperature is around 44 C. And that's without any real CPU usage. I've read on the Arctic Silver website that it takes time to "break-in". So, I was thinking that after this "break-in" has passed, it'll cool down... I hope.
And yes, I'm VERY new to building PCs. As a matter of fact, I started today. :)

This is what MS says about the error you are getting... http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=297185
44C isn't too bad for idle temps. Did you follow the directions at Arctic Silver's Website (http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_instructions.htm) for applying the thermal compound? Good luck! :D

I set it to 166 right before I went to bed last night, and it's working fine. My temperature is now 43 C (109 F).

good job. Now all you have to do is try to run it at 400FSB.
That would give you 2300mhz, might work. be careful, ask questions

Not to be critical Scott, but if you say it that way it's confusing to some because you actaully set the FSB to 200 to achive 400 (200x2 = 400). Good luck FusionX, it *may* work and it may not? :D

I was going to try it at 400, but then I started thinking that it may get too hot. Running it at 166 gives me 2081, and that works well. And yes, I only have 133, 166 and 200 FSB frequency options. However, if I set the configuration to Expert (currently Optimal), I can set it from 133 to 300.

Direct, now I see exactly why that could be confusing.
Try setting it to 200FSB rather. Watch the temperatures. If it runs stable but get too hot then you might want to consider buying a new cpu cooler. There are plenty of them on the market.
