I've read that not only does one have to select "UDMA If Available" under each IDE channels properties under Device Manager but have to go to the registry at:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000]
"EnableUDMA100"=dword:00000001

The DWORD key is EnableUDMA100 for my Maxtor UDMA100 HDD.

I have 2 questions:

1. I have a DVDROM and CDRW on the same secondary IDE channel, both are UDMA33 units. For the registry do i enter:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0001]
"EnableUDMA33"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0002]
"EnableUDMA33"=dword:00000001

2. What if i added the EnableUDMA100 into all three directories. Does this have the same affect as EnableUDMA33 for the DVDROM/CDRW? Or what about having EnableUDMA100, EnableUDMA66, and EnableUDMA33 as keys for each folder. Would this mess up Windows? In fact what are these 3 folders ie. 0000, 0001, 0002). Just curious.

My system is using an Athlon TBird 1 GigHz and the other PC is using a Pentium 4 @ 1.7 GigHz.

Thanks.

All you need to do is load Service Pack 4. Done.

That advice is years old and only applied to the initial release,
