I need to know the maximum CPU that the ecsk7s5a will support.
The local computer shop near me says the lowest cpu they can get is an Athalon 2gig. for around $70. I've been doing some reading on this forum and have seen people use up to 1700mhz without any problems. Anyway, the mobo book says it will support up to 1400mhz at the time of writing. Thanks....

Current rig:
WIN98SE
ECSK7S5A mobo
1gig Duron
512 ddr ram
300w ps
64meg geforce mx400
Soundblaster 512 (mobo sound disabled)

P.S. What is the difference between Athalon and Athalon XP?

It will support any AMD 462-pin CPU up to and including the Athlon XP 2400+.P.S. What is the difference between Athalon and Athalon XP? XP = newer - better. :D

By the way - update your BIOS.

And mind the power ... by far not all supposedly "300W" power supplies are up to the job of feeding a 2400+.

I updated my BIOS with:
02/08/09 09/09/02 AMI® BIOS. Support AMD Athlon XP 2400+ and 2600+ CPU 450KB (from ECS link above)

I also put in a new, unopened Athlon 2400+. When i start my computer it says Athlon 1800+, WTF? I thought it would say Athlon 2400+ when i booted. Am i missing something, or need to change something in BIOS or? Please help....

Thanks.....

Yes - you have to change the FSB/host clock to 133MHz.

**** you answer fast :)

I have the options of:
100/100
100/133
133/133

So switch it to 133/133?
And i dont need to mess with voltage or anything?
Thanks...
