oh oh oh.... and its sorta like.....ummm that other one with out 80's music..
hehehe.. just kiddin with ya....It's an alright game.. I just hate it when ppl talk about how cool that game is and when they play it.. all they do is put infinate health, all weapons and infinate ammo on and blow **** up for 4 hours......
sorry.. not my cup of gaming tea..

without no doubt:
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Seconded.
Gotta be Vice City for me I think. The storyline was good, and playing through it properly was somewhat challenging and also really good fun. Sure, if you're that way inclined you can put cheats on as you say, and 'blow **** up for four hours' but at the end of the day it's that freedom which made it so **** good :)
I'd like to put a second game in... but none spring to mind that had me playing for so long... I suppose the only one that comes close was the D+D romp Temple of Elemental Evil but that was too buggy and rushed to warrant a 'game of the year'
 :p

FYI-
Vice City actually has a multiplayer patch out now. Kinda sucks, but fun to jump on a stunt map with some friends at the same time.

Yeah there are four lines (or somehting small liek that)of multiplayer code existing in the GTa3 engine which the MP mods for both games build on, supposed to be very shoddy in terms of stability though

I'm gonna give it to Call of Duty. Great graphics, a little short for a campain, but all together the multiplayer makes up for it. :t

after playing Vice city a few times now ( not toally done with ) I now think it is not as novel as when I bought it compared to some of the other games I like much better..
I am not sure just when it came out ( had to be 2003 ) but I am playing Mafia again from the start and this game took ALL the rewards there is in hte market and I think it is just absolutely incredible!
If you were to compare it to a Vice city, for example ..there is no way it doesn't win ..hands down
Those boys at Illusion software are pure genius ( i think they are german )

sorry, but I have to give this one to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. It was one of the only games that I've played that actually felt like it was an Online Universe and not just some old Console RPG. KOTOR looks really good for an RPG too. Definately the best game of the year.

Yes, I totally agree. Knights of the Old Republic is my pick.

I'd have to say that my favorite game of the year would be Final Fantasy XI.

As far as single player RPG games go, I just finished Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and I enjoyed it immensely. Had a hard time pulling myself away to do those essential daily things like eating, sleeping, working, etc. . .Every time you save the game it tells you the amount of time you have played and it was more than 70 hours of enjoyment for me from start to finish. And that was only playing it thru following the path of the light. I haven't even tried to see how the game changes yet when you follow the dark side. Very good game I thought. . .best single player RPG I played in quite some time. Good balance of fighting and story line.

I definitely have to go with KOTOR. It's just so much fun and there is so much to it. I personally think the GTA games are highly overated.

CoD would have taken it if it werent for lack of longevity, in fact the main reason behind my voting for NFS:U is its the only game this year thats lasted me longer than a day

Didn't that come out in 2002? Oh wait maybe in Summber 03? That title didn't go much farther than worth you're money. I'm still mad at Blizzard for changing to 3-D, because I liked Starcraft's 2-d better. Oh well,,,,,,

There isn't a game to me that deserves the title. Nothing this year was truly spectalur. COD was nice, but short. NFS:U was good for several reasons, if not that it wasn't a ten minute game. GTA: Vice City was just a regurgitation of GTA III only with a bit more "plot." See the pattern here. There wasn't a single game this year that really excelled in every area or nearly every area. Games this year just seems to fit the mold of the expected far too well or just were too bloody short. Crappy year for games. I can't really see any becoming a classic.

All I can say is that 2002 was best and CoD was totally killer. The only thing that I disagree is that any multiplayer game isn't short because you have online forever!

I would second that, the only game that even came close to getting anything in my Book was NFSU, because of what is said above it didn’t last 6 hours. I would have but MaxPyane 2 but it just wasn’t worth the money given the length of time the game lasted.

against your opinion? are you being held at gunpoint to say that? so IN your opinion, what do you really think?
by the way the best rpg ever was either chrono trigger or final fantasy 6.

No I don't like RPGs all together, it's just that if there had to be a best FFX-2 would win. Also I am not being held at gun point to say this (it's worse he's got a squirt gun).

i think he entirely missed the point i was making.
anyhow, ffx2 is so... poppy. whatever
it seems no matter what square does it turns out fun.
i used to be really into rpg's but they just got boring sometime this year, that's when i started to play nothing but first person shooters.
so naturally i would give game of the year honors to a fps, but as much as i like cod: it was indeed too short. so i guess this year wasnt so good.

My first real experience with an FPS was a game called Fire Warrior. It was buggy as hell and not all that interesting either. Didn't bother with Half-life, Counter-strike etc despite the hype. Take it i'm missing out?!?!
btw-I had no squirt gun. if violence is necessary as i explained, my weapon of choice aint a projectile weapon =)
